Salaspils Memorial Ensemble, Salaspils
(4.4/5 based on 85+ reviews on the web)
In a quiet forest sits Salaspils Memorial Ensemble, created in memory of thousands who died in a concentration camp at this site. Menacing dark-gray stone statues represent suffering men, women, and children. A large marble block marks a massive grave while a metronome beats from under the ground, simulating heartbeats. Look for numerous toys scattered around the yard, a reminder of the children who perished here from hunger, cold, and disease. See Salaspils Memorial Ensemble and all Salaspils has to offer by arranging your trip with our Salaspils vacation route planner.

  • Totally worth the trip if you're visiting Riga. We followed the directions from the Lonely Planet book and it wasn't difficult to find at all. The path is well made and the hike is easy. The woods wer...  more »
  • In a paragraph, sober and quiet environment that overwhelms the soul and fills it with sadness by what happened and what is happening in the world, is a memorial that is hidden and difficult to access. Badly indicated, almost inaccessible without GPS.
