View of Riga from St Peter's Church Tower, Riga

4.0
#3 of 335 in Things to do in Latvia
Get a 360-degree View of Riga from St Peter's Church Tower. Take the elevator to reach the 72 m (236 ft) high observation platform, then look down to see the diverse architecture, the remains of ancient city walls, the markets, and the squares of the town. Ancient chronicles from 1209 first mention the wooden tower, which, at the time, was the highest in Europe. You can watch a film about the church's restoration of the spire while waiting for the elevator. Notice the rooster on the spire--a precise replica of the previous one and the seventh rooster in all. Bring a jacket; it can be windy at the top. Great views of Riga which, given that tourist activities are concentrated on just a small part of the city, displays a real sense of its size. Access is initially up steps, then up a lift. There can b...  more »

This is the place you go if you want a quick overview of Riga and old city. An absolutely amazing views. Blew well up there so bring a jacket/sweater. A reasonable entry price that also includes the Church afterwards.

The elevator to rise 70 meters. Nice review on the 360 degrees of the city. Very crowded, a lot of people on the ground and climbs to the elevator grilles hinder do panoramic shots. Cost recovery is 11 EURO.

Where to stay in Riga

As tourism surges in Riga, accommodation options and variety have grown too. The Baltic capital has quality lodging for every budget, from centrally located and affordable hostels, to private apartments and hotel rooms, to chic main-street hotels. The Old Town, a World Heritage Site, sits at the center of it all, so consider staying here if you want to be in the thick of things. For lower prices, look slightly outside of the city's core but within walking distance. For somewhere a little quieter, check out neighborhoods like Agenskalns and Tornakalns, which are less touristy, well-preserved districts.
