  • Compartment is located behind the central market. According to the Guide, a description of the quarter sounds like: "between streets Maskavas, Krasta and Turgenev are so-called" Red barns "-historic buildings of brick, which appeared in Riga in 1864-1886 and was used as warehouse premises. Here there are small cafes, boutiques, art galleries, concert hall, Museum, Centre of contemporary culture. There are various cultural events, concerts, exhibitions, screenings, making this quarter creative. "we were in this place in the middle of January. Interesting historical buildings. Everything is closed, silence, desert ... You can go through the transition to the embankment, view of the river and make pictures ...

  • Went to Spikeri after going to the Central Market. Worth the visit when you are walking around the area.  more »
  • Spikeri district is characteristic, with red buildings that stand out. Located near the central market. One Saturday per month we held a flea market really interesting. Are collectibles (coins, buttons ...), amber and various antiques (radio, books, razors, knives ...) with the majority of the Soviet era. Some sellers also told a brief history of banquets and items for sale.

  • great local flea market where the locals come out with their treasures for tourist and locals alike
  • Historic place, what used to be Ghetto. Nowadays it is creative district, where you can enjoy art, gigs and theater performances. Just take a nice walk along promenade and enjoy beautiful sunsets. In summer you can grab some fresh food from central market and have lunch by the benches.
  • Frequently hosting free public events, Spīķeri is one of the best places to meet new people in Riga, and it's only a ten minute walk from the city center. There are often free concerts with a variety of Latvian and international musicians playing, craft days, open air cinema nights and the Riga Flea Market also takes place nearby.
  • A very vibrant and artistic recreational area with cafés, shops and art spaces, giving the former Central Market warehouse district a new look and feel. A concert hall, independent theatre and the Riga Ghetto Museum are also located here (although the ghetto was located elsewhere). The main square offers a wide cultural programme all year around. The downside is the accessibility of the area from Old Riga - the only secure crossing is the tunnel from the riverside on Krasta Street.
  • Wonderful area, missing some cafes only

Where to stay in Riga

As tourism surges in Riga, accommodation options and variety have grown too. The Baltic capital has quality lodging for every budget, from centrally located and affordable hostels, to private apartments and hotel rooms, to chic main-street hotels. The Old Town, a World Heritage Site, sits at the center of it all, so consider staying here if you want to be in the thick of things. For lower prices, look slightly outside of the city's core but within walking distance. For somewhere a little quieter, check out neighborhoods like Agenskalns and Tornakalns, which are less touristy, well-preserved districts.
