Riga Zoo, Riga

4.1
#1 of 21 in Outdoors in Riga
Take the opportunity to see rare species of eagles, owls, and falcons at Riga Zoo, which accommodates about 4,000 animals of nearly 500 species in a forested area on the lakeshore. Walk through the reptile tunnel, or visit the nocturnal room. Watch the ant colony cutting up and transporting leaves across the water to their nests. Children especially will enjoy the chance to pet sheep and goats. Amenities include a cafe, a small park area, and a playground with swings and a climbing gym. Become an honorary guardian of an animal by making a donation to the zoo. Discover how to plan a Riga trip in just a few steps with Inspirock's itinerary builder.

  • One senses that they have spent a lot of time on the details, and some different things that you don't see in other zoos. That exhibition of skulls from the different type of animal, and regular Ant where they had built up paths and "House" for the ants so that one could look at while they worked. It was a little funny. A great diversity of animals and some different animals like condors and vultures.

  • Surprised that in the small town of Riga is such a great Zoo. Many different animals. The truth is not the fact that you will be able to view them all, but as in any Zoo.

  • A medium sized zoo situated in a wooded park easily accessible by tram from the city centre. A nice range of species on show including giraffes, raccoon dogs and tigers. A small tropical house has a range of amphibians and reptiles and a nocturnal area.
  • A very fun stroll in a very weird park. It's located in a forest so green is not an issue, but animal treatment is: the capibaras (3 of them) have a bigger cage than the 2 hippos. Half the animals seem fine and happy, the rest seems very down, locked up, and put in a space way too small. The staff at vending stalls will yell at you if you don't speak the local language.
  • Excellent kids love this place.
  • Nice Place for Family and kids. You will enjoy to walk and see different kind animals. 🖒
  • Interesting zoo in lovely grounds 🐯🦁🐒🦌🐂🐪🦏🐧🐍🦎🐢🐊🐠🕷️🦂

Where to stay in Riga

As tourism surges in Riga, accommodation options and variety have grown too. The Baltic capital has quality lodging for every budget, from centrally located and affordable hostels, to private apartments and hotel rooms, to chic main-street hotels. The Old Town, a World Heritage Site, sits at the center of it all, so consider staying here if you want to be in the thick of things. For lower prices, look slightly outside of the city's core but within walking distance. For somewhere a little quieter, check out neighborhoods like Agenskalns and Tornakalns, which are less touristy, well-preserved districts.
