Riga Zoo, Riga

4.0
#1 of 22 in Outdoors in Riga
Take the opportunity to see rare species of eagles, owls, and falcons at Riga Zoo, which accommodates about 4,000 animals of nearly 500 species in a forested area on the lakeshore. Walk through the reptile tunnel, or visit the nocturnal room. Watch the ant colony cutting up and transporting leaves across the water to their nests. Children especially will enjoy the chance to pet sheep and goats. Amenities include a cafe, a small park area, and a playground with swings and a climbing gym. Become an honorary guardian of an animal by making a donation to the zoo. Discover how to plan a Riga trip in just a few steps with Inspirock's itinerary builder.

  • Such a sad, sad place to visit. Beeing an animal lover I can never recommend anyone to ever visit this place. Seeing this poor animals in way to small cages with no natural stimulation and severe stre...  more »
  • With tram 11 stop you for the Zoo. Because it is winter and there is snow we had take into account that not all animals would be visible. That. It is in the park on a number of obscure places or walk your way in May. At the Zoo is still converted or built. Now it's a nice place to spend a few hours walking around.

  • This zoo is okay compared to Eastern European standards. It is cheap to get in, and there are not very many visitors. It is easy to get there by public transport.

  • Taken into consideration that it was March, a very good amount of animals were on display. The entrance and parking fees were next to nothing compared to how much there was to see. As a minus, it was hard to tell which of the "animal houses" were open and which were closed. Also some animals appeared to be in slightly poor and tight conditions (however, this may just be due to the winter time) All-in-all, would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Riga and looking for a cheap and entertaining way to spend the day.
  • Good medium size zoo with enough animals to entertain you for atleast 2 hours. The zoo itself is not really big but just as big as you'd expect for that price. The animals are kept in large enough cages with much room indoors as outdoors. They are building some new residents for some new animals at the moment and working hard to clean up the place because right now it can sometimes look a bit plain. The variety of animals for the size of zoo is excellent. You have multiple residents for all types of reptilians, fish, birds and the more bigger animals like giraffes and hippo's. There is also a little zoo for the children with chicken, goats and sheep. So would recommend this zoo if you are in the neighborhood or visiting Riga for a few days because it's just a 30 minute tram ride away.
  • Not up to 'western' standards. But overall not bad. Entry is very cheap. So, something you might want to visit, if you have a spare day in Riga.
  • What a place..!!! Loved the whole experience.. Its very easy to access with tram 11 dropping at Mezaparks - right in front of the zoo.. The ticket is priced at 3€ which is fine... They have a wide variety of animals... The two humped camel.. Multiple varieties of owls, monkeys, insects, frogs, husbandy animals, wild and exotic birds etc.. Looks like the animals are well kept and looked nourished.. The temperature was also taken care for sensitive and tropical animals.. The frozen lake view was breathtaking at the altar... Must visit if you are in Riga..
  • The price is totally worth it. In the winter season there are not a lot of animals. We went on a working day and were the only one in the zoo. Although it was a nice visit
