At Riga Central Market, see how old German zeppelin hangars from World War I were reconstructed to serve as venues to sell meat, fish, produce, and dairy products. One of the most notable structures from 20th century in Latvia, this market has been included in World Heritage List. Try some smoked salmon, homemade apple juice, caviar, or freshly picked mushrooms. You can shop for nonfood items, too, such as knee-length woolen socks with "Riga" knitted into them. Each pavilion has slightly different opening hours. A visit to Riga Central Market represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Riga family vacation planner to plot your vacation.

  • The Riga market is unusual because it is located inside the hangars, you can find everything from fish to beer at the freshly baked bread, fruit etc etc so to see the market stalls outside.

  • I love this stuff. A central market made out of old Zeppelin hangers. So you can imagine, each of the 5 buildings is massive. While most or not packed the walls with merchants, there's sooo much produce here to shop and look at. The hanger with vegetables in it smelled heavenly. The market is surrounded by even more open air stalls selling more food and clothing. One thing I was looking for was that old weird Russian surplus store with bizarre old CCCP stuff. Oh well. Still awesome.
  • I love this market! There were so many fresh, mouthwatering strawberries on sale when I visited. Each of the buildings has different vendors selling different products. Most certainly worth visiting!
  • A must to get a real taste of Latvian culture! lot of different market shops, with fresh fish, bread, cheese, vegetable but also souvenirs and clothes. It is developed in 4 connected huge buildings. Wheelchair friendly.
  • Lots of variety off any product. The products look great and the ones I've tried were very nice. Also a pleasant place to go around (I was there as a tourist)
  • Huge marketplace with quite a selection (we have found an old man who sold old Nazi and Soviet era medals among other things), and just a blast of colors and smells.
