Riga Central Market, Riga

(4.3/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
At Riga Central Market, see how old German zeppelin hangars from World War I were reconstructed to serve as venues to sell meat, fish, produce, and dairy products. One of the most notable structures from 20th century in Latvia, this market has been included in World Heritage List. Try some smoked salmon, homemade apple juice, caviar, or freshly picked mushrooms. You can shop for nonfood items, too, such as knee-length woolen socks with "Riga" knitted into them. Each pavilion has slightly different opening hours. A visit to Riga Central Market represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Riga family vacation planner to plot your vacation.

  • Read a lot about the market. Decided to check out. Located next to the station. A normal market. Selection of cheeses such as Stokmena the market noticeably better. Fish Pavilion with a large range, but nothing much there I didn't notice. Fruits and vegetables is not a great variety. So amateur.

  • Market is not very great, when you compare it to la boqueria in Barcelona for example. Fish is fresh (live) and bread smells good. Not a must see!

  • Fantastic market.. Food shopping as it should be. This market is very large as each building has its specialties: meat, fish, produce, bakery/cheese & dairy. Do as the locals: find the breads or pastries you want, get a small drink, and cop a table in one of the corners. Outside, more local produce stands. Meander down one of the many side streets to find anything from glasses to pots and pans.
  • Fascinating experience. If you are visiting Riga, definitely go to Central Market and explore its endless stalls with all fruits, veggies, sweets, meat and fish. They also make fresh bread. This is a heaven for a food lover!
  • A must of a Riga visit. each building has its own product line. Covered central markets were almost in every city in USSR, and Riga`s central market is one of the bests I have visited. You must watch out for beggars and pickpockets.
  • This place is so original and full of all kind of local food. It is build in an old hangars and you can find a lot of fresh food like vegetables, dairy and meet. Check it out if you stay in Riga for a bit longer than few days and want fresh food!
  • Brilliant value for money at this market! As budget long term travellers it was awesome to find some fruit, veg, meat and nuts that were much cheaper than at the usual Rimi supermarket! The market is huge, has an indoor and outdoor.
