  • We paid a few dollars for a guide in this museum. That was definitely worth it! This boy was very enthusiastic and gave extensive explanations on the occupation of his country by the Russians, the Germans and the Russians later. It is amazing how much this country last century under the Nazis and Communists. Tip: combine a visit to this museum with a guided tour in the ' Corner House ' (= KGB museum) elsewhere in the city!

  • Great insight into history and incredibly well designed museum. Brilliant exhibits and use of storytelling and technology to guide you through history. Never gets boring!
  • The museum is located in the center of the old town. We tried the 5D movie theater, which is a tour of Riga main attraction. Very recommended!
  • Amazing museum of Latvian anti soviet propaganda. Only good thing is that it was free. But jumping off a bridge is also free, and that's probably more fun.
  • Interesting to those who still think that the Soviet communism had something of good in it.
  • Very interesting (and free) and not to be missed if you've got a bit of time to kill in Riga.

Where to stay in Riga

As tourism surges in Riga, accommodation options and variety have grown too. The Baltic capital has quality lodging for every budget, from centrally located and affordable hostels, to private apartments and hotel rooms, to chic main-street hotels. The Old Town, a World Heritage Site, sits at the center of it all, so consider staying here if you want to be in the thick of things. For lower prices, look slightly outside of the city's core but within walking distance. For somewhere a little quieter, check out neighborhoods like Agenskalns and Tornakalns, which are less touristy, well-preserved districts.
