  • A comprehensive collection of Latvian military history. No access fee. An interesting and varied range of war history and others. In particular, article about an exhibition of the first world war left off, and there was also foreign visitors.

  • Good museum. Great WW1 part that also was in english. Would have given 5 stars if all was in English
  • Best WW1 exhibit I've seen, really interesting from latvian, German, Russian points of view. Also really good recent history, joining EU and Nato, and Iraq, Afghanistan wars. Older exhibits are harder as there aren't English alongside the pieces it requires picking up a guide book for each section which gets a bit wordy. Really enjoyable thought for the newer exhibits and interactive pieces such as rolling maps of movements etc
  • Военный музей будет интересен мальчишкам и людям, интересующимся историей. Вход бесплатный ;) The museum is targeted at young boys and people interested in history. Not all the information is available in English. But overall most of the things are comprehensible, especially the XX century part (if you were born in the USSR). The building (tower) is historic and very interesting itself. If you have children don't miss the press machine by the entrance :) BTW, the entrance is free...!
  • The museum is free of charge and very big. Backpacks and jackets can be placed in lockable shelfes (also free of charge). Most parts are described very well in english. Some things are only in latvian, for example small descriptions of weaponry and tools. Its of use to be able to read russian and/or german for the full experience. There is a lot of old german and russian things (clothes, tools, weapons), which seem to be preserved in their original state (with their original symbols on them). I enjoyed the museum very much, even though sometimes, because of the topic, it is very depressing.
  • It's free! Plan to visit in few takes, as museum contains too much facts and information to comprehend during one visit.

Where to stay in Riga

As tourism surges in Riga, accommodation options and variety have grown too. The Baltic capital has quality lodging for every budget, from centrally located and affordable hostels, to private apartments and hotel rooms, to chic main-street hotels. The Old Town, a World Heritage Site, sits at the center of it all, so consider staying here if you want to be in the thick of things. For lower prices, look slightly outside of the city's core but within walking distance. For somewhere a little quieter, check out neighborhoods like Agenskalns and Tornakalns, which are less touristy, well-preserved districts.
