  • Amazing building. Excellent, classy cafe for a meal or snack. I loved seeing the 1917-1940 Latvian works, they could hold their own anywhere. There was also a floor dedicated to contemporary art, and a special exhibit of conceptual art ....which I probably needed more time to ponder. Take time to walk down the stairs to the lowest level and see the visible paintings storage area on the way.
  • One of the best museums to visit if you are a tourist in Riga and are interested in art. Usuallyhas 1 changing exhibition and 1 static exhibition with the most important Latvian painter works from different times. Also has some augmented reality stuff and audio guides for free through their app. It Has huge student discounts up to 50% of the regular price. On the most upper floor there is a nice view over the city.
  • A new experience. Latvian art is signed by the experiences unique to this culture. I enjoyed a new perspective. Coming from America, where freedom (up until the uprising of facism 2018) was apparent. I wonder if humankind will ever get it together all at once.
  • The collection is fine. The problem was with the staff. We arrived late but still had about an hour before the advertised closing time of 18.00. We were rudely refused entrance to a small section of the exhibition we had paid for at 17.42. Several minutes later we heard an announcement that the museum was closing at 18.00 despite being told to leave at 17.42. We were polite, but dealt with in a rude manner. The employee clearly understood every thing we said but refused to communicate. Late entrants should be warned that the museum closes well before the advertised time before they pay for entrance. We were trying to enter the final wing of our visit about 15 seconds from the exit so could have comfortably seen the collection and exited in good time. Sad that a national gallery should have so little interest in the experience of its visitors.
  • Great paintings. Can be seen in 2 hours and well worth the entrance fee. The contemporary art exhibition is not worth it though - it's just the usual nonsense.
