Kgb Building File No. 1914/2014, Riga
(4.1/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Kgb Building File No. 1914/2014 keeps dark secrets of interrogations, torture, and the executions of thousands. Set foot in the dark hallways of the former secret police headquarters, or "the house on the corner," as the locals called it between 1940 and 1991 during Soviet rule. Visit a stark prison cell, outfitted with only a pallet to sleep on and a window that lets in a small ray of light. Personal effects that prisoners took with them on a journey without return, such as a teddy bear or a bit sand from their spouse's grave, make the exhibits hauntingly real. Keep in mind that, while you can access part of the museum on your own, you'll need to join a tour to see others. Check the website in advance for English-language tour times. Put Kgb Building File No. 1914/2014 and other Riga attractions into our Riga tourist route planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • I thought this might be interesting. The building is depressingly old and delapidated inside. I suppose that's for effect. but it's not a plesant place to spend much time. Access in to the cells area ...  more »
  • The lead in the former KGB building was a good complement to the visit the occupation Museum (I recommend to visit this, just a bit more background knowledge to have when you're a "Latvia beginner" as I previously). The building is preserved in its original state, you can visit and others arrivals, and Verhoehrzimmer, as well as the prison cells. This one is accompanied by a guide, who can tell you many stories about former prisoners and also guards. Our guide has himself met some of these people and talked with them about the experienced, which made the whole thing somehow even more depressing, but also authentic. For the offer, I also fully justified the price of 5 euros (or 2 euros for students).

  • This is definitely the closest Museum to visit in Riga, will open your eyes to many things that have happened in the history of the city and country!! I advise you to consult the website to see what time is the guided tour (in English) because you can not go yourself, then you get there and have to wait many hours or having to return!! The guide is understandable and absolutely helpful to better understand what happened during the years in Latvia and in Riga! Very touching and definitely reflect!!
