At Central Market (Centraltirgus), see how old German zeppelin hangars from World War I were reconstructed to serve as venues to sell meat, fish, produce, and dairy products. One of the most notable structures from 20th century in Latvia, this market has been included in World Heritage List. Try some smoked salmon, homemade apple juice, caviar, or freshly picked mushrooms. You can shop for nonfood items, too, such as knee-length woolen socks with "Riga" knitted into them. Each pavilion has slightly different opening hours. To visit Central Market (Centraltirgus) on your trip to Riga, use our Riga journey builder website .

Ook op zondag zijn de hallen open. De eerste hal was een vishal. Jee de geur was niet te hebben. Snel doorgelopen naar de 2e hal. Ziet er allemaal keurig uit. Alles heel netjes uitgestald. more »Also on Sundays the halls are open. The first hall was a vishal. Jee the smell wasn't to have. Quickly walked on to the 2nd hall. All looks nice. Everything very neatly displayed.

This market is MASSIVE! 5 former zeppelin hangers turned into a thriving marketplace. One is currently under renovation (fall 2019) but the others are packed with vendors and people. There is so much to see and so much to eat. The "culinary" hanger has about two dozen food vendors. It does take a little bit to food to come out if it's busy, but it's all made fresh so it's worth the wait. The fried potato place (forget the name) is very good and worth visiting!
The market is really big! A lot of fresh meat, veggies, fruits and berries. You can find a ready to eat food, pastries and cheese. A lot of smoked fish - it’s a specialty of Latvia, and it’s really delicious. A lot of pickled veggies, delicious too! Most of products are local and that makes this place so unique. You’ll find here a very good food court with the food they prepare at the place. Put attention to the rye bread - it’s totally delicious! Only one point - try to avoid to get to the market area in the evening, it’s just not save enough.
This is definitely a must visit for a Riga visitor especially if you are not familiar with this kind of size market. The market is housed in indoor and outdoor space and there you can choose from a huge variety of fresh fish and meat, as well as processed fish and meat. The variety of fresh fruits and vegetables is humongous and in addition you can enjoy a coffee, a snack, a meal or even buy spices and souvenirs!! All these goodies come in reasonable prices. If you haven’t already done this prepare a day’s meal with fresh stuff from this place!! It will be an unforgettable experience!
Unique place to buy products if Latvia, half of the market is open air and half is located in buildings. Just next to the central bus station and central railway station. Be sure You will spend most of Your day here, if You want to see every bit of the products that thay sell here, don't be shy to ask to taste , even if You are not buying
