Wat Si Muang, Vientiane

4.2
#4 of 16 in Historic Sites in Vientiane
Find good fortune at Wat Si Muang, a wooden worship temple known for its good luck, attracting visitors to come and make a wish. If the wish is granted, people return to the temple to offer gifts and to give thanks for their fulfilled wish. Intricate details and carvings engulf both the inside and outside of the building, and the golden shade of the walls helps it stand out from the surroundings. Don't miss the golden Buddha statue that sits under a tree in the garden, in front of the temple. • Although this wat is not as old as Wat Sisaket there is more to see & a great place for people watching. Spend time in the main sim & admire the decorations on the walls & ceiling & why not be blessed...  more »
  • We passed several times during our week in Vientiane, it is a temple alive, always full of faithful filing their offerings, where you can enjoy good speech reported by a monk. We attended is very touching scenes. We have also found the crass imbecility of some stupid pictures or selfies eager tourists. What would you say if a group of Chinese, Japanese, Australian, German, french and Belgian tourists had put their cameras under the noses of the priest officiating during your marriage or the funeral of a loved one? They are very welcoming, respect them, respect their customs, respect the rules that are those of their philosophy and their belief, you're not at Disneyland, they are not in representation.

  • Had become a temple for a little away from the tourist areas quickly filled with local feeling. The main addition to Temple, Buddha statues, many stood. Could not read Lao description is amazed by the large statue of Tinseltown.

  • A colourful take on the traditional Laos temple. There's no fee for entry, and for those devout there are often monks offering blessings.
  • This Wat has awesome animals(pets)! Make sure to poke your head around corners and look for then (don't be crazy rude though).
  • Nice colorfull temple. Better than wat sisaket nearby. Free entry.
  • Vat Si Muang is a holy place of Bhudist and City Pillar in same place located in central Vientiane. This is a most popular for both local peoples and foreigner to be visited. If you bring your own vehicle, here has the area for car parking very conveniece. Many locals people go to praying and bring some of flowers and fruit as the gift to the holy spirits.
