Vientiane Night Market, Vientiane

2.5
#2 of 16 in Shopping in Vientiane
Test your bargaining skills at Vientiane Night Market, which emerges every evening on the riverbank. As the sun sets, vendors start putting up their signature red tents on the promenade. Most of the goods--clothes, footwear, accessories for cellphones, and handbags--seem to cater to locals, but you can also find statues and paintings of Buddha, bottles of spirits preserving snakes and scorpions, and hand-crafted items clearly meant for tourists. The only thing you can’t buy from the stalls is food, but if you're feeling peckish, you can always check out the restaurants across the street. • This market looks like other markets but this one is big. You can easily spend a couple of hours here looking at the shops or maybe get a bite to eat.  more »
  • We started off wandering & looking & became increasingly quicker, when able. Nothing even interested us. Definitly cheap but !!  more »
  • And same trick of mostly not pricing so they can over charge the gullible tourists. I did have a beer there one night and a wind began that blew over six or seven tents. I grabbed, a tent strut and ma...  more »

  • We loved this night market. Went 3-4 nights in a row. Great for kids and adults. Lots of good food. Plenty of people watching and shopping to do. There are really funny HIT workouts being done by a group near the river to watch as well. Awesome street food also.
  • This is local catered night market, not much stalls selling souvenirs or touristy items. Some items are pricier compared to other places, need to bargain reasonably. Across the market is a small area with food stalls. You can try some noodle soup and seat in a secluded open area which is quite nice while do some scene/people watching. It’s not too crowded on weekdays night, so please give it a try.
  • A night bazaar stretching over half a km. Pleasant shopping experience. Don't forget to walk across the road to the newly opened shopping area by the riverside. It features more permanent shops.
  • Reasonable prices for products. Great place to buy gifts to take home.
  • Good prices, don't forget to bargain. A variety of things for sale. A lot similar options, but some different. Extensive, so I managed only half in 2 hrs!
