Vientiane Night Market, Vientiane

2.5
#2 of 16 in Shopping in Vientiane
Test your bargaining skills at Vientiane Night Market, which emerges every evening on the riverbank. As the sun sets, vendors start putting up their signature red tents on the promenade. Most of the goods--clothes, footwear, accessories for cellphones, and handbags--seem to cater to locals, but you can also find statues and paintings of Buddha, bottles of spirits preserving snakes and scorpions, and hand-crafted items clearly meant for tourists. The only thing you can’t buy from the stalls is food, but if you're feeling peckish, you can always check out the restaurants across the street. • Is the evening destination par excellence, with a nice walk along the river. Two paths that converge into one at the end of the platform, with an endless series of stalls with the usual colourful and varied merchandise. We were particularly lucky on the last night, when there was the annual coffee festival, with tastings, concerts and folk dancing. If we want to, the market is one of many that are found throughout South East Asia, but embellished of this holiday appeared over the top.

  • In the market there is a kebab (chicken breast with onion) position opposite to the Amazon coffee and delicious 10,000 kip is a 40bath. In terms of the market: we were here in March 2017 and returned in may 2018. It has gone to quite worse. They did not let us harass small children begging for money. She is us they threw forward and did not let us pass. Many flying cockroaches. There are no interesting things to buy are 1 euro in shops in a market-like. Some men are approached us with an interview in English supposedly for a class that had and the questions had nothing to do with any kind of English more well than type know where you stay, with many people traveling (draw your conclusions) us We returned to the hotel super fast with our rich kebabs of chicken breast. There are rich and beautiful restaurants in Vientiane major spend the quiet night with your partner to market.

  • We loved this night market. Went 3-4 nights in a row. Great for kids and adults. Lots of good food. Plenty of people watching and shopping to do. There are really funny HIT workouts being done by a group near the river to watch as well. Awesome street food also.
  • It’s a massive night market. U can spend 2-3 nights there. It’s an attraction for local people too. Really enjoy to feel the energetic local life style.
  • This is local catered night market, not much stalls selling souvenirs or touristy items. Some items are pricier compared to other places, need to bargain reasonably. Across the market is a small area with food stalls. You can try some noodle soup and seat in a secluded open area which is quite nice while do some scene/people watching. It’s not too crowded on weekdays night, so please give it a try.
  • Very famous night market on the banks of Mekong river with lots of cheap clothes and stuff in the night market, really good and delicious street food at the numerous stalls around and in the market, if you shop there don't forget to negotiate with the vendors
  • A very fun market experience, and unique in that it is situated along the river, which is quite picturesque. There are many deals to be found, and quite a few interesting food options that make for a nicely entertaining evening.
