In my opinion, this activity should be a lot more top on the list of attractions in the city. The first market found coming from the city is divided in two buildings, the most modern with 4 floors. It is divided into several sectors: household appliances, stationery, souvenirs, Herbalism, etc. in addition to silks in colorful skeins of silk and clothing fashionable Lao textiles. The first floor is almost exclusively dedicated to gold jewelry. The market located across the roadway is more modest, under corrugated iron, to the uneven dirt floor. There also a huge choice of silks to weave more equipment for the manufacture of textiles and fashion Lao. The majority of the food stands are also on this side of the roadway. It is here that you will find the fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, etc. Cooked dishes are sold in one of the corridors that lead to the 2nd market and a few small eateries are installed inside. Despite its name of morning market, the market remains open until 17:00.

This was something of a let-down – basically a large market inside a poorly air-conditioned building – shoes, shoes clothing, clothing most of which doubtless does not come from Lao interspersed with ...  more »

a bit misleading as it is not really a morning market except for the produce which i believe is so because of the heat and sun can damage it. it is basically an indoor market that stays open all day and mostly opens about 8ish, though you can find some open earlier slowly opening. it is more of a bazaar than a market, as it is a sort of chaotic array of indoor stores in a maze. there are some outdoor stands the extend around the perimeter and up to the Khua Din market by the bus station a block away. if you are looking for unique items, you may find some here, but this is mainly a local Lao market so you may not get very good deal and the clothing will be mostly contemporary Laotian style. if you go here, i would recommend you go after it to the Khua Din market that is a block away and starts at the bus station, so it caters as well to travelers, for a complete shopping experience, between the two markets, you should be able to find what you are looking for. my review reflects going to both markets as in a sense, they are so close, the mall and the bus station, you could consider them both part of the morning market.

Cenyrally located. Good place for just about everything, especially the 3 FL food court in the older annex.

Great little local market, great for fruit at native prices.

I didn't find clothes I need. Types of souvenirs are limited. Prices sometimes are high. I advice to bargain and agree on a half price at least.

Where to stay in Vientiane

Pretty little Vientiane offers a good range of accommodations, with most either mid-range or upmarket hotels by national standards. Close to the riverfront sit the grandest of the bunch, with newly built high-rise hotels and boutiques set in old French colonial buildings. Move away from the water a little to find some standard, unassuming hotels, mixed in with a few more boutiques and high-rises overlooking the prettier plazas and along the main boulevards. For budget options, look at the guesthouses and hostels on the side streets around Rue Setthathilath, but make sure to reserve your room early to avoid disappointment.
