  • This is not a market but a mall. No need to waste his time there to other more interesting things to see in Vientiane. Unless you want to bring a washing machine. Local crafts are almost nonexistent. Prefer the food market or real shops of Lao handicrafts like Saoban.

  • Typical Asian market where he sold lots of clothes. The funny thing is that between store and shop there are also fishmongers etc. Common in Asia.

  • Took a tuk-tuk there in the morning. We had expected to see more fresh items on sale. There was quite a small area selling food, fresh and cooked as well as alive. Still a good place to browse around ...  more »

  • Actually in Laos it is not easy to find a big souvenire shop but this place will safisfy you. It is morning market so it is recommended to go before 3pm.
  • a bit misleading as it is not really a morning market except for the produce which i believe is so because of the heat and sun can damage it. it is basically an indoor market that stays open all day and mostly opens about 8ish, though you can find some open earlier slowly opening. it is more of a bazaar than a market, as it is a sort of chaotic array of indoor stores in a maze. there are some outdoor stands the extend around the perimeter and up to the Khua Din market by the bus station a block away. if you are looking for unique items, you may find some here, but this is mainly a local Lao market so you may not get very good deal and the clothing will be mostly contemporary Laotian style. if you go here, i would recommend you go after it to the Khua Din market that is a block away and starts at the bus station, so it caters as well to travelers, for a complete shopping experience, between the two markets, you should be able to find what you are looking for. my review reflects going to both markets as in a sense, they are so close, the mall and the bus station, you could consider them both part of the morning market.
  • Cenyrally located. Good place for just about everything, especially the 3 FL food court in the older annex.
  • Cheap tat, don't waste your time
  • Nice place to buy goods at cheap price

Where to stay in Vientiane

Pretty little Vientiane offers a good range of accommodations, with most either mid-range or upmarket hotels by national standards. Close to the riverfront sit the grandest of the bunch, with newly built high-rise hotels and boutiques set in old French colonial buildings. Move away from the water a little to find some standard, unassuming hotels, mixed in with a few more boutiques and high-rises overlooking the prettier plazas and along the main boulevards. For budget options, look at the guesthouses and hostels on the side streets around Rue Setthathilath, but make sure to reserve your room early to avoid disappointment.
