  • its a statue of one of their kings on the main road. its quite well done with good lighting and all.Just a photo point  more »
  • Chao Fa Ngum united the Lanxang Kingdom in 1353. During his reign, Vientiane was not a center of Lanxang. The Vientiane resident suggested me to do the walking tour. It begins at the National History ...  more »
  • Not much to see really. You really can't avoid seeing this as you drive around in tuk tuk or taxi but basically I don't think I'd be going out of my way to have a look.  more »

  • nice park that is behind the presidential building. if you go here, be sure to keep going to past the end of the park to the left side facing the Mekong/south, past the statue and away from the downtown, where you will find the New World area weather permitting. Very clean and similar to many western inter city civic parks. you can see the Mekong River from here and walk along back to the night market area. (this area shows signs of coming development as of June 2017, so there may be more here in the near future)
  • Generally I like the ambiance of the area around it. The Lao people are so friendly. Will definitely come back and visit again.
  • Take a walk to watch sunset, then stroll around night market which is cheaper in price.
  • This is one of the most important part of Lao people and foreigners' tourists attraction
  • Great place for jogging and meeting new people. Evening only

Where to stay in Vientiane

Pretty little Vientiane offers a good range of accommodations, with most either mid-range or upmarket hotels by national standards. Close to the riverfront sit the grandest of the bunch, with newly built high-rise hotels and boutiques set in old French colonial buildings. Move away from the water a little to find some standard, unassuming hotels, mixed in with a few more boutiques and high-rises overlooking the prettier plazas and along the main boulevards. For budget options, look at the guesthouses and hostels on the side streets around Rue Setthathilath, but make sure to reserve your room early to avoid disappointment.
