Tham Nam (Water cave), Vang Vieng

3.7
#2 of 7 in Parks in Vang Vieng
Drag yourself by a rope while floating in a tube and exploring Tham Nam (Water cave). The 500 m (1,640 ft) long ride winds through dark corners and pristine refreshing waters, with only the light of your headlamp illuminating the narrow passages. Although the conditions are completely safe and the fixed ropes ensure you don’t wander off, you can hire a guide to assist you and give you some background information about the cave. Finish your adventure with a meal in the nearby restaurant. Keep in mind that the tube floating experience is possible only during the wet season, while in the dry season visitors explore the cave by foot. • Tubing In bat caves in the dark with head torches on was really funny and a little scary. Really glad I did it . Pulling onto a rope to pull you along with a massive group of you. Highly recommend doi...  more »
  • Cool cave in to it with tubing and flashlights. Long walk to some but simply a fun experience and is recommended for everyone.

  • It's a 4 km walk on a pleasant country road on the way to the village of Ban Na. It's not a stunning cave with stalactites and stalacmites, but is interesting to see the river coming through the mount...  more »

  • Went all the way there by motorbike and ended up not going into the cave.. it was about 3pm and very crowded (photo taken before another giant tour group arrived) looked like you just use a rope and tube to float inside and come back the same way.. they also have a some restaurants and zipline..
  • Amazing cave. Water in the cave isn't deep. And everyone can enjoy this cave.
  • Fun place you cannot be missed
  • Triling for first timer! Good to have a guide with you.
  • Funny experience, one hour or so in the dark and cold water. Good to make friendships and be skilled with tubes.

Where to stay in Vang Vieng

A frequently visited eco-tourism spot, Vang Vieng offers a variety of budget and mid-range accommodations and basic tourist services. Most of the lodgings sit between route 13 and Nam Song, with boutique hotels tending to sit closer to the main road and low-key options grouped around the market. Bungalows on the river island are popular among young visitors traveling in groups, although you should ask to view the room and the bathroom before you pay, as these accommodations aren't always in top condition.
