#2 of 8 in Nature in Vientiane Province
Geologic Formation Nature / Park
Explore halls and narrow corridors of Tham Chang Cave, which provided a refuge for the inhabitants of a neighboring village during the wars of the 19th century. To get to the entrance of the cave, you need to cross a river on a wooden bridge and climb a hill overgrown with lush vegetation. Once in the cave, follow the well-lit pathways secured by wooden railings. From the entrance, you can see the surrounding fields, the river, and the village--the spot remains ideal for snapping a few memorable photos. Put Tham Chang Cave into our Vang Vieng vacation generator and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

Where to stay in Vang Vieng

A frequently visited eco-tourism spot, Vang Vieng offers a variety of budget and mid-range accommodations and basic tourist services. Most of the lodgings sit between route 13 and Nam Song, with boutique hotels tending to sit closer to the main road and low-key options grouped around the market. Bungalows on the river island are popular among young visitors traveling in groups, although you should ask to view the room and the bathroom before you pay, as these accommodations aren't always in top condition.
