  • There is no much to do in Savanakhet apart from walking around the center and the Mekong river. It is a good point to rest before taking a long bus to Vietname, Cambodja or Vientiane.  more »
  • As a whole the city does not have many points of special interest to tourists, indeed, seems to just do not offer them, has the vocation of place without excesses, whose time is left to spend with a slow progress of vital rhythms. Offers a wonderful glimpse on the Mekong, and a grid of light in the colonial streets, nothing more suitable for vagrants, transients, people coming to do prefer to think and spend. Absolutely unpretentious has among the main attractions in its strategic position in southern Laos, is the midpoint and suited to stand for those who follow Hwy 13 from Vientiane in the far south, and vice versa, and it is the biggest Centre in the land of Laos from which passes Hwy 9 west who then becoming east and linking the Thai Province of Mukdahan Vietnamese border of Lao Bao from where you enter in Viet Nam in the former demilitarezed zone, with all the different places made famous by the war with the United States, Keh Sanh, Rockpile, Hamburger Hill etc etc, up to hue. Basically Savanhaket is a strategic crossroad.

  • My Thai wife loved to visit this very old temples. For her, it was an experience to visit temples in Laos that are organized in the same way as the temples of Thailand.

  • This is a small airport. It is the door of south Laos for the people who love a simple way of life style.
  • Not so much flights operate here. You can find domestic flights to Pakse and Vientiane only. Bangkok is the only international route available.
  • Great airport. But still needs improvement.
  • Airport is useful.
