Phu Salao, Golden Buddha, Pakse

4.3
#1 of 13 in Things to do in Pakse
Landmark Tourist Spot
Perched high on Salao Hill, the impressive Phu Salao, Golden Buddha surveys the panoramic landscape of the region. Part of Phu Salao Buddhist temple complex, the summit can be reached by ascending a multitude of steep steps (note that these are poorly maintained) for the more athletic travelers, or by a road that winds around the hill to the site. Look out for other small golden Buddha statues, neatly arranged nearby. Consider heading up to watch the sunset over Pakse from this spot, and be sure to bring your camera along. Put Phu Salao, Golden Buddha and other Pakse attractions into our Pakse family vacation planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • A free activity. First access two choices: either by the markets about 500 but there 250, sports so for heart patients drop. Otherwise there is a road that get you up to the black coming from pakse after the bridge crossing the Mekong River to the left pass you the stairs going up to the black and you follow the road. Attention if you go by motorcycle plan to demote gently to avoid breaking the chain. The view is beautiful, and the temple is superb. You can buy a bracelet blessed by a monk in the temple. You give what you want.

  • The climb to the Golden Buddha is sporty enough but the view at the top is nice. This visit not worth 4/5 but a little more than 3/5 anyway. If you have the time to do it, why not but otherwise, you are not much! A focus on good weather days!

  • This peak with its large golden Buddha statue at its apex is a great place for a panoramic view back across the Mekong to Pakse, and beyond. The peak can be seen easily from Pakse Township and a visitation will entail crossing the bridge to the western bank of the river. If you are planning to go up there to catch the sunset, you are well advised to take a flashlight because the descent may end up being done in the dark. Such is the distance from the carpark to the top. The lower section of the trail to the top has well-constructed cement steps but this eventually gives way to rickety wooden stairs which needed to be negotiated with care. The hike up is further than it looks. Therefore a reasonable level of fitness is advised as well as enough time to get up and back before darkness falls. The Buddha statue at the top is large and impressive and is part of a temple complex. Whilst there, the temple monks will probably come in small groups to pay their respects to the statue.
