Whisky Village, Luang Prabang

(1/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Make new friends at Whisky Village, where locals offer taste tests no matter what time of day. Learn about the traditional ways the locals brew moonshine often used in ceremonies, which is now a cultural treasure of the nation. They even contribute what they think to be "magical powers" to the liquor, so don't be surprised to see animal paws, bones, whole snakes, and scorpions inside the liquor bottles. Get memorabilia at one of the many small souvenir stores, or bring home a bottle or two of the villagers' specialty drink. • Short boat stop on the way to the Buddha cave. Is it a big deal....no. A small village with tourist stuff to buy. We did, so can you.  more »
  • If you have few days I do not recommend going to the Village. They are many stalls of clothing, crafts, and whisky as the luang prabang night market... you do not lose anything, only buy cheap rice whisky.

  • Whisky liqueur is about 55 degrees that Lao is distilled with rudimentary methods from fermented rice. The taste resembles our grappa but softer. It is sold in bottles of various sizes at a price high enough to Laotian standards. It is also used to store ' in spirit ' snakes, scorpions and scolopendras so as to produce a liqueur that is believed to have aphrodisiac properties. You test it. ...
