  • Rent a bike! Bowl upset, such as pagodas are rarely found in this town. Here it may be; There were peels off the walls, while bricks are coming out. Environment was lined with stalls for gifts and offerings. Big banyan tree was impressive.

  • The Visounnarat & the Makmo That Vat. Built in 1513 Vat Visounnarat would be one of the temples of Luang Phabang if it had been completely burned by the troops of the black (Hos) Pavillion. Today the temple is rebuilt, but hardly resembles the original, because the former had to be entirely wooden. The temple still retains a fine collection of Buddhas of all times. In the enclosure of the temple stands a large stupa, that Pathum, more commonly called That Makmo ("watermelon stupa") because of its round shape. It was rebuilt in 1895 after being destroyed and looted by the Hos who found in her breast of small Buddhas in precious metals. Vat Visounnarat (1503 and completely redone in 1898)(Nom: Le monastère de l'éclair dele de roi Vixun) features:-it is a temple-Museum. -The Phabang stayed there from 1513 to 1707. -Simple appearance with a roof at 2 levels. -windows with balusters of khmer style. -In its walls, one finds a Bo tree that the strain from Ceylon (1939). -At its entrance, a pillar of the elephants is perfectly preserved. That Makmo (1504 and renovated in 1898)(Nom: Le stupa dele de Vénérable Lotus.) His nickname is the watermelon stupa) features:-it is 35 m high. -Small stupas, at its base, represent the 4 cardinal points and the 4 elements. -The style is clearly Sinhalese influence. -It is built on the former location of a pond.
