Rising 150 m (492 ft) in the center of Luang Prabang's old town, Mount Phousi offers a fantastic view of the city's architectural, religious, and cultural landmarks. During your gentle ascent to the summit, stop by the surrounding temples and shrines where you can pray, enjoy the view, and rest. Halfway up the hill, notice the big-bellied Buddha statue tucked in a grotto. Bring an extra water bottle, a hat, good walking shoes, and some insect repellent. • Worth the steps to see the views at the top...a lot of people stay for sunset, we didn't want to hang around for an hour. Some really cool buddha statues on the way up.  more »
  • It’s a nice thing to do and to be able to say you’ve done. We went up in time to see the sunset. The sunset was beautiful and the views were lovely. However, there were so many people it was almost cl...  more »

  • Amazing sunset with tons of people. You need to know this is a very touristy area because the view is fantastic. Just get ready and you might be lucky after climbing those +300 staircases..
  • Ok view, better if you can see the sunset. Not very high up but there are no tall buildings in the city so you are fine. I went up and down the most popular entrance in from of the National Museum, Night Market.
  • If visiting, try to be there before sunset. There is a magnificent view of the two rivers that go around Luang Prabang, one of them the famous Mekong River. Also a wonderful view of the city. Reach the top by stairs. About 328 steps; definitely, not for the faint of heart.
  • 318 stairs up from the Palace side to the top. 20 000k entrance fee - ensure you get a ticket after paying as we had to ask...! There is a small temple and the large stupa which is visible from around town. Good views but it was very hazy so poor photography. There is another much better route up/ down from the Nam Khan river road which passes several other smaller temples, a Buddha footprint and several Buddha statues in overhangs and on rocks.
  • Try to go up in the morning to beat the crowds! Best pictures you can take of Luang are found here! Sunrise/sunset a huge bonus
