Burana Tower, Tokmok
Categories: Observation Decks, Tourist Spots
The last remaining structure of the ancient city of Balasagun, Burana Tower offers a glimpse at a long-lost civilization. The tower was constructed between the 10th and 11th centuries and partially destroyed during an earthquake in the 16th century. Its diminished 25 m (82 ft) height can still be scaled by climbing an internal spiral staircase, leading to a panoramic viewing point. This is not just the place or tower, ask around the legends and history. People in nearby villages are very friendly.

Burana Tower is a large minaret dated of IX AD. The tower, along with grave markers (bal-bals), some earthworks and the remnants of a castle and three mausoleums, is all that remains of the ancient city of Balasagyn, which was established by the Karakhanids at the end of the IX century. Current height of tower is 25 m which is about half less of its original height of 45 m. An external staircase and steep, winding stairway inside the tower enables visitors to climb to the top.
Greg heffleyI went last summer. It's a different experience. A few come down easy but turn out to be. When you talk about us as tourists, they asked 40 com, so double it. On top there's a beautiful landscape that even at the entrance to the region have different figurines. Really nice and interesting experience. I suggest you to leave.show original
