Issyk-Kul Lake, Karakol

4.6
In the northern part of the Tian Shan mountains lies Issyk-Kul Lake, offering plenty of recreational activities in a pleasant natural setting. The world's second-largest saline lake, it never freezes--even during the cool winters. At a height of 1,607 m (5,272 ft), the endorheic lake is fed by small rivers, springs, and melting snows and reaches a depth of 668 m (2,192 ft). A popular tourist zone since the Soviet era, the area boasts numerous sandy beaches surrounded by alpine meadows, thermal mineral springs, and lush forests. Go for a swim and relax under the sun, or explore the natural environment that shelters many migratory birds, such as cranes, swans, and ducks. • We weren't in Karakol, and Cholpon-Ata, health resort/sanatorium "Blue Issyk-Kul". Honestly, I actually spent his childhood, and, I love this Lake, air, mountains, slightly brackish transparent refreshing water. And all there remained the same and the Lake and "service." Inns around the set in our was no fridge, no, an unprecedented miracle conditioner. But most of all, service. You're just living on them something must, for that I came here. In place (the best there!) once served izumitelnejshij skewers. A day later, there was already one fat on our complaints ran shashlychnik, VV, decent were the only words that to blame Baran. And Baba it (another term not worthy) called us all possible and impossible terms. And in the Lake in the area of the beach of the sanatorium in the water lie huge stones, swim. bruise on a paunch, at best. You can't see it from the water, so every now and then hear vskriki. A sea of people, water dirty. And admission money. In General, the Issyk-Kul only by car, on a wild Beach, with its food

  • Lake with extraordinarily beautiful water color: shades of pale blue to dark blue-green, sometimes Emerald color, from light pale to bright saturated colors. Add to this coastal bright Greens with fruit trees and pyramidal poplars and snow-capped mountains, towering over the Lake. Over mountains permanently in motion clouds, illuminated Sun or evening dawn. The picture that is hard to describe, but easy to see!

  • This area, while driving past the lake, give you some idea of what it was like in the Soviet era. There are dozens of vacant resorts on the lake side although we did see a fair few bathers in the lake...  more »
