Inspirock Rating:
4.8/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web
Set in a dramatic alpine valley, Altyn Arashan offers therapeutic hot spring baths and scenic hiking trails. Part of the Arashan State Nature Reserve, the valley is 2,600 m (8,530 ft) above sea level, framed by rugged peaks that include the 4,260 m (13,976 ft) Pik Palatka. The resort itself is remote and basic, with hot spring water guided into concrete baths within wooden structures. Be prepared for the smell of the sulphur in the baths, which are is reputedly very beneficial for one's health. English language signage is displayed at the baths, detailing the various ailments that can be appeased by the waters. • The beautiful path that leads to Altyn Arashan unfolds along a deep valley that ends in a glacier of almost 5,000 metres. a.s.l. shaped tent, which makes his Grand appearance towards the end of the trail, when you see that group of shelters and yurts. Free horses graze along the route and passes some 4WD with tourists lazy. The Valley is quite similar to one of our beautiful alpine valleys, the walk is more than pleasant. We walk about 14 km and an altitude difference of 600 meters (but we're not sure, since we had no maps and no one has been able to give us details). In 4 hours walking, arrived to a beautiful plain, rustic retreat at a laden table. The refuge and the people we meet are special, although we divide one (surmountable) language barrier: a heterogeneous group of transients, which made only the night at the shelter. Next to the refuge are the hotspring, too hot for us. Others take the opportunity with great satisfaction. The rooms are not heated, on networks and the mattresses and blankets in our bedroom we had to close two eyes. The bathroom is outside and new, but it has happened that lacked water, and had to fill the bucket to fountain fed by the river! The Manager and his wife are delightful, helpful and friendly, he very good chess player! Would go back to tour the loop trail, which, however, requires a couple of extra days. With a few years at least, it would be nice to also reach the glacier PiccoTenda ...
