  • The grand Mosque is the biggest and most important mosque in Kuwait City. We took the guided tour of the mosque, which is free. The timing for the tour are between 5 and 7 pm. The tour is held in Engl...  more »
  • entering the mosque was a feat: by day it is deserted and there's a cage of security, where we had the misfortune to be greeted by a guy kuwatiano (I read that others have had such bad luck), who began making stupid questions by pretending cordiality and trying to hook up. We said it was not possible to enter the mosque at 13 hours and that we would be due to return in the afternoon between 17 and 19. So did, in the afternoon we go on purpose there and we find him to refuse. The Aquarium, at the Science Centre, we told the unpleasant episode ticket and children, amazed, they wanted help, providing us with a contact number for appointment, which even at the hotel it was possible to call to have response. We implored the leadership of Kuwait Tourism Services to get us: they have screwed over 150 dinars (multiplied by 3 in euros) for a futile trip to Wafra farms, Al Kout and Al Zour 8 hours but passed off as just 5 hours; to do that I have been clear in saying driving to recoup the hours don't make for free and ... manage to get into the mosque, where we met a British free guide very helpful. The mosque is fabulous: 42 million euros of value for gold, granite and carvings, worth not to be missed. Dominate the Italian marble and wood, carpets and Egyptian and Moroccan materials. The ceiling is breathtaking, feels like a golden sea, which is reflected in the blue carpet. We found inside at the start of the call to prayer: it's always a thrill to hear from inside

  • This was really educational. The guide Solaman was really helpful and took us round the Grand Mosque and explained everything in detail. Would recommend if visiting Kuwait to make the Grand Mosque a must see. Really good.
  • Beautiful place. But I wonder why its mostly closed these days.
  • The intricate design of the Islamic geometric patterns on the walls, ceilings with an addition of arabic calligraphy is captivating.
  • Went there for a tour a few years ago as well as to see sheikh Mishary. Great mosque and amazing atmosphere!
  • Very Beautiful Mosque, Grand in every way! Definitely worth a visit when you're in Kuwait...

Where to stay in Kuwait City

Few look much further than the peninsula of Kuwait City when looking for accommodations. And with good reason too, with plenty of attractions by the waterfront and a wide range of accommodations located here, including skyscraper hotels, standard chains, basic guesthouses, and charming boutiques. But looking further back from the water can bring up some hidden treasures, with the older (or, at least, less recently renovated) districts still possessing a certain storied charm with their aged look and more traditional markets. You'll find hostels, guesthouses, and a few luxury options to boot.
