Skanderbeg statue, Pristina

(2/5 based on 95+ reviews on the web)
Built atop a structure that resembles a traditional Albanian hat, Skanderbeg statue was lifted in 2001, paying homage to a 15th-century hero who fought off the Ottoman empire for decades. Skanderbeg prevented enemy forces from penetrating deeper into Western Europe and played a major role in formation of Albania's national consciousness. A small plaza surrounds the statue, serving as a meeting point for locals. Snap a photo of this complex of governmental buildings and flags centered around this important national monument. • Skanderberg is the Albanian national hero in the struggle against the Turks. In every Albanian community are statues dedicated to this valiant hero. The statue is in the center of town to Prstina, in front of the theater, and a couple of ministries, (Government and Parliament). It is impressive). Well worth a quick visit and scatare a couple of pictures, also because it is at the beginning of the Avenue dedicated to Mother Teresa of Calcutta, in practice in the heart of Pristina.

  • Pretty cool to look at, but nothing too special. Close to a number of restaurants and coffee shops. Not worth a trip of its own.  more »
