History Museum Museum
At Kosovo Museum, explore the culture and past of a country that, although newly formed, boasts a long, rich history. Kosovo's national museum serves as the earliest institution of cultural heritage in Kosovo, founded in 1949, and the Austro-Hungarian style building that houses its artifacts dates back to the late 19th century. Rotating exhibits explore different aspects of the nation's history, and there is a permanent gallery dedicated to the Kosovo War of 1998-1999. Limited information is provided in English, but visitors can witness photos, international newspaper stories, and the flags of NATO countries that intervened. Be warned, there are some graphic and potentially disturbing images on display. Arrange to visit Kosovo Museum and other attractions in Pristina using our Pristina trip itinerary maker.

Where to stay in Pristina

Most accommodations in Pristina lie within its compact center, enabling easy access to the young capital's attractions and vibrant cafe culture. Although the city receives few vacationers, there is a relatively large number of luxury hotels, including four- and five-star establishments. These mainly cater to business travelers, particularly from international governmental organizations, but provide comfort for any guest. If traveling on a budget, consider one of the wallet-friendly hostels; you'll find both dorm-style and private rooms.

  • I actually went to the museum in June 2013, so I'm not sure how much it has changed since I was there, but there were very few exhibitions, all about the Kosovo War and not anything else. I know the c...  more »
  • We managed to take a look at the building which was very attractive and went inside until someone advised that the museum is being renovated. I'm sure it will be very interesting once complete!  more »
  • Unfortunately still closed for renovation when I visited. I had hoped to see the famous Goddess on Throne, whose image is on the Kosovar ID cards and elsewhere, as a symbol of Kosovo. Opposite the mus...  more »
