History Museum
At Kosovo Museum, explore the culture and past of a country that, although newly formed, boasts a long, rich history. Kosovo's national museum serves as the earliest institution of cultural heritage in Kosovo, founded in 1949, and the Austro-Hungarian style building that houses its artifacts dates back to the late 19th century. Rotating exhibits explore different aspects of the nation's history, and there is a permanent gallery dedicated to the Kosovo War of 1998-1999. Limited information is provided in English, but visitors can witness photos, international newspaper stories, and the flags of NATO countries that intervened. Be warned, there are some graphic and potentially disturbing images on display. Arrange to visit Kosovo Museum and other attractions in Pristina using our Pristina trip itinerary maker.

  • Don't expect too much as a museum but still can be seen when you go to one of the places you can visit to see.

  • The Museum is located in a building of Kosovo inspired by Austro-Hungarian-made originally for the regional management of an Ottoman province of Kosovo. From 1945 until 1975 it served as a headquarters for the Yugoslav national army. In 1963 it was sold to the Kosovo Museum. The Kosovo Museum has an extensive collection of antiques walathnologih, including the Neolithic goddess on throne, discovered clay near Pristina in 1960 and labeled in the city logo. There are a large number of artifacts of antiquity still in Belgrade, and the looting of the Museum in 1999.

  • I actually went to the museum in June 2013, so I'm not sure how much it has changed since I was there, but there were very few exhibitions, all about the Kosovo War and not anything else. I know the c...  more »

  • Big, beautiful museum that is a highlight of the city in its lovely yellow building. Houses many artifacts from the local area.
  • You'll find a lot of historic objects and pictures here
