Gracanica Monastery, Gracanica

(4.7/5 based on 60+ reviews on the web)
Gracanica Monastery, a World Heritage site, represents the height of Serbian Byzantine tradition with a touch of Renaissance, and is adorned with well-preserved frescoes that date back to 1321. The monastery, with its five domes and precious decorative elements, is considered to be a first-class architectural achievement of the era. More than 20 nuns live and work on the premises, dedicating their lives to monastic obediences as well as to icon painting, agriculture, and sewing. View the lavish interiors of the monastery, where you'll see representations of the early life of Jesus. Look for the Day of Judgment fresco, which shows sinners being sent into eternal flames. • The most beautiful monastery in all of Serbia. Other beautiful monasteries inside the country include Studenica, Bogorodica Ljeviška, Manasija, and Mileševa (among so many others). Check them out! 🇷🇸👍🏼
  • When I entered, no one guarded this world heritage, just some prayers. The modern glass windows embedded in the old churches make it unique and vivid
  • Spent several years in Kosovo a large portion of it I had the privilege to visit the Monastery on numerous occasions. The History of this Monastery and Gracanica is amazing to say the least. A beautiful Church with history dating back past the 1300's. Very nice place to visit, and if occasion brings you into the nearest Airport in Pristina, I wouldn't miss visiting this Monastery and interfacing with the people.!!!
