#4 of 34 in Shopping in Nairobi
Browse through a variety of African arts and crafts at Utamaduni Craft Centre, a fixed-price mini-shopping center centered on souvenirs. Some 18 shops offer antiques, wood carvings, bronze pieces, various fabrics, beaded glassware, Kenyan kiondo baskets, bags, soapstone, and antique African silver and gold jewelry. Don't miss the Masai design shops, the large array of khangas and kikoys, and crafts made by former street children of Nairobi. Created by Kenya-born British anthropologist Richard Leakey, the center supports various artists all over Kenya and features a tranquil garden serving refreshments and light meals. • The Utamaduni Craft Centre was an unusual find. It’s part playground, part shop, part aviary and part restaurant. The food is not too bad (once the order arrives correctly) and the menu quite varied. ...  more »
  • If Kenya souvenirs here! From the knick knacks all lined large figurines, handmade bags, candy, etc.. If you are tired shopping break at a cafe outside. You can buy, with confidence in the climate near the equator is unlikely, security site. Shop staff are kind, Japanese especially are good.

  • I'm not very given to crafts markets but it is difficult to leave without buying some souvenirs of Africa. That I'm allergic to the harassment of the sellers, prefer to walk calmly, browse and, whenever possible, not race. Utamaduni is a house where every room has a small shop, accessories Masai clothes and toys for children, fabrics, sculptures or furniture. I visit often and always took time to relax in your garden after browsing the merchandise carefully.

  • One-stop shop for souvenirs. Decent prices: coffee, food, clothing, jewelry, metal work...worth a look.
  • The food was amazing and the people were the nicest. Stores are a little bit too expensive and not a lot of variety
  • Such a vast collection of culture in one place! beautiful pieces
  • Had booked our trip from Game viewers adventure limited and on the way back to airport had stopped here very good place to buy handicrafts not at all expensive .
  • Good place for food and esp.local drivers are taken care of well!
