#3 of 6 in Trails in Kenya
Escape Nairobi's hustle and bustle and enter the tranquil world of an indigenous tropical dry forest at Oloolua Nature Trail. Running for 5 km (3 mi) through thick forest vines and undergrowth below high treetops, the trail partly follows the course of the Mbagathi River. Spanning 250 hectares (618 acres), the Oloolua forest offers good opportunities for brisk hiking, jogging, and picnicking. Enjoy the serenity, scenic views of water cascades, and the sound of the birds in this popular getaway. You can also explore a 33 m (108 ft) long cave along the river. • Went to the nature trail today. Entry fees are cheap and friendly. The nature trail is not as well maintained as Karura nature trail. There is no security visible are you navigate the nature trail. On...  more »
  • It is actually a nice walk, but people throw litter along the trails. Although there are weekly clean-up, there is still plastic bottles etc.. It costs approximately 600 KSH for tourists to get access to the forest, which is a little expensive. that one gets a walk out of it. However, there is a right fine cave with bats. Tip: remember the flashlight/headlamp for this!

  • In all honesty I expected much more. its not really a place you can go solo like other nature trails. In a group it can be better, and its not something where you can spend and enjoy an entire day. Al...  more »

  • A beautiful and quiet place to enjoy your walk and/or picnic. The routes are quite straightforward, so whether alone or with company you should be able to make it through the circuit. I bet the waterfall is even more beautiful during the rainy season
  • Lovely place but needs to do something about the lack of signage. Very easy to get lost. Borrow a leaf from distinct & helpful signage at say, Karura. Otherwise, loved it! 💕
  • It may not be a sprawling forest but it is a lovely slice of nature in this loud, and busy city of ours. From a modest waterfall, to a trail between towering trees and their intertwined roots. There's a little cave, a bamboo and papyrus swamp and even in the unrelenting heat, cool shade and breeze. Perfect for picnics and nature walks.
  • It’s a nice place for nature walks and even jogs, the park is also very clean but it is not well maintained, I noticed some of the wooden stairs going down to the waterfall are broken which is very dangerous and some steps were also missing, also a local person told us that we might meet with a hyena and we shouldn’t look scared, though we didn’t see one you ought to be careful. There are caves too. Definitely going back
  • Great spot, but it does sometimes rain! Thank you too a very kind gate keeper for offering shelter.
