Nairobi Arboretum, Nairobi

3.6
#6 of 21 in Parks in Nairobi
Founded in 1907 as a plantation for new forestry trees, Nairobi Arboretum was specifically created to help find high-caloric firewood to fuel the Kenya-Uganda Railway. The popular recreational area was designated as a national reserve in 1932 after coal and diesel became the prominent fuels. Quick-growing exotic softwoods were planted across the present-day 30 hectares (74 acres) and park benches and paved walkways were added later. Stroll through the forests and look for more than 350 species of exotic and indigenous plants, vervet and Sykes monkeys, and over 100 species of birds. The park also has restrooms and trash bins. • Looking to have a quiet talk with yourself or a friend and just relax? This is your place. You could walk through the park or cycle or just picnic. Carry a snack for yourself, a Kindle, a book... enjoy.
  • Great place to appreciate some natural habitat. Has large grounds that can be used for birthdays, receptions on even concerts. On top of that it's accessible and very safe.
  • This place is nice. Big play ground and cool environment. I enjoyed a retreat here
  • This is a good place for meditation. A wide variety of birds and butterflies are all over the calm environment with quite a number of Columbus monkeys around the place. Entry is 50 Kenyan shillings only.
  • Great outdoor space!!! It's a natural conservatory with great areas to hold events and concerts. It's fairly close to the CBD and easily accessible by public transport or on foot. It's well maintained and fairly safe. The parking is limited.
