Nairobi Arboretum, Nairobi

3.6
#7 of 21 in Parks in Nairobi
Founded in 1907 as a plantation for new forestry trees, Nairobi Arboretum was specifically created to help find high-caloric firewood to fuel the Kenya-Uganda Railway. The popular recreational area was designated as a national reserve in 1932 after coal and diesel became the prominent fuels. Quick-growing exotic softwoods were planted across the present-day 30 hectares (74 acres) and park benches and paved walkways were added later. Stroll through the forests and look for more than 350 species of exotic and indigenous plants, vervet and Sykes monkeys, and over 100 species of birds. The park also has restrooms and trash bins. • The arboretum is a peaceful and relaxing little enclave in the bustling, noisy city of Nairobi. Ideal for a stroll and to wind down and contemplate. 30 minutes is enough to refresh yourself to engage ...  more »
  • This park is not too large, so ideal for a walk around without any preparation. Like an urban oasis, it offers a broad range of plants from all over the world, while hosting some very friendly monkeys...  more »
  • Just stopped to take pictures. It was the weekend and I was movimentadíssimo. Couples resting, lots of children playing. Beautiful park to rest.

  • It is a cool place. Enough space & places to sit. You can have private conversations without fear of being heard. Enough shade from the sun. Reasonable entrance fees
  • Good outdoor place for chilling, jogging, sight seeing or just hanging out. Open everyday from morning to late evening. Offers ample parking and it's never congested.
  • It's one of Nairobi's green spaces. The place is very ideal for family get aways and picnics. Often used for wedding receptions, music concerts and plenty of other events. There's a good open area. I can definitely recommend it to anyone wishing to connect with nature as there are good nature trails perfect for walks. Enthusiasts on forestry stuff might also find it interesting as there are some very old trees here. It can be accessed from State House Rd.
  • Nice place for jogging and taking a leisure walk there is a charge of 50 Bob that can only be paid by MPesa no cash accepted so if you plan to visit go with your phone. Toilets are horrible hopefully with the charge introduced they will improve, but plan your visit to exclude use of this basic amenity for now.
  • It's a good place to relax from the busy streets of Nairobi. I loved it, very spacious, and cool breeze from all the trees
