Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Cottages, Nairobi

Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Walk in the footsteps of the famous colonial-era Danish writer at Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Cottages, built at the site of the original farmhouse and coffee plantation. Originally built from 1906-1908 on 2.2 hectares (5.5 acres) of some of the oldest formal gardens in Kenya, today the establishment includes accommodations for up to 30 guests. Enjoy a cup of coffee or a meal in the garden, where over 200 different types of flowering plants blossom year-round. The historic manor house was moved here in 2008, and stands amidst huge jacaranda, cacti, and bottlebrush trees. • This place is worth a visit. Karen Blixen has marked her territory in Kenya and to find out more about her life you have to see her place. What an inspiring woman  more »
  • Went to the spa here.. Loved it. Sarah is very friendly and professional.. She knows her thing. There is a pool when you feel like a dip. Place is very serene for some quiet time.
  • You can tell from it's name, it's sitting around the famous "Out of Africa's " lady once expansive plantation. Great meals with an option of sitting outdoors too. A talented painter has his skills on display, to offer that wondering eye some preoccupation until your meals alive. Peaceful and quiet locality.
  • Nice hangout for family n friends on easy sunny afternoons, some limited kids entertainment, live band on Saturday evening, good paintings by local artists on display & sale. The dishes could be better.. too much spice in the chicken curry, sausages not cooked through and chicken wings are on the oily side.
  • The Tamarind, Tamambo Karen Blixen Restaurant is awesome, though THEY SHOULD SUPER/IMPROVE THEIR GAME ESPECIALLY THE WAY THEY ATTEND TO DRIVER GUIDES. MY DRIVER GUIDES AREN'T THAT DEMANDING, BUT TO BE BRIEF I PERSONALLY HAVE GOT A FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE OF THIS. For the clients/guests the service is great, but then remember these guests don't bring themselves here. Thanks
  • The ambience is unmatched. If you want a quiet afternoon to get away, then this is the place for you
