Giraffe Centre, Nairobi

4.3
#2 of 133 in Parks in Kenya
Come face to face with some of the region's most endangered giraffes at Giraffe Centre. Established in 1983 as part of a long-serving conservation project to protect the East African Rothschild giraffe, this nonprofit organization provides educational programmes for the young people of Kenya. Entrance fees help support the cause, and you'll get to meet, feed, and even touch these towering creatures from a raised observation platform. A forest trail also provides a pleasant walk through the undergrowth (watch out for the warthogs). If you're feeling thirsty, head to the teahouse for some refreshment amid ambient scenery. Put Giraffe Centre into our Nairobi trip itinerary planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Nairobi.

  • This is fun. Giraffes are cool. You gotta go. You can feed them, but they don't like their heads touched.  more »
  • We went here for a visit after visiting the Sheldrick Elephant Centre (also worth a visit). The Giraffe Centre was amazing, we spent over an hour there feeding a large giraffe who was apparently 5.5 m...  more »
  • Expensive compared to what you can see, you can hand-feed giraffes. You pay double compared to elephant børnehjemmet and it is not worth

  • The fee for admission is reasonable. There's not much to do. It's basically just a giraffe feeding experience with a tacky gift shop on premises. School groups frequent and the kids feeding giraffes are of course adorable. The helpers are friendly and the giraffes are super cute. Overall I'd recommend going as a stop if you're visiting Nairobi national Park.
  • This place is awesome. I went with a group of friends. The classes are actually really educative and fun, yet short. Like 20 min. The place is not so huge so family time and couple time is guaranteed to be interactive. A nice restaurant around here. The giraffes themselves are actively impressive. In my time of coming here, I met Edd, the largest male here. He is really huge and impressive. There are 3 species of giraffes which is also nice to see. The center does some really great efforts to help kids learn about giraffes and environmental conservation. Kudos to the team at Giraffe center.
  • This is a must visit if you're within Nairobi. The giraffes are super friendly and if you're daring you may actually get a 'kiss' from one of them. This is where you attempt to feed the giraffe from your mouth and it licks the food off you. The giraffes are quite a marvelous site as it doesn't dawn on you how tall they are until they are really close to you. The entry charges are not very expensive both for locals and non residents. I'd highly recommend
  • This place should be on Nairobi’s Best Places To Visit. If such a list exists. It’s a relatively small place, but you can spend hours here interacting with the Giraffes. I can’t speak for all of them, but Daisy was polite, gentle, a class act that one. Feeding the giraffe is a humbling experience. I won’t lie, I was shook (translation for those 30 and over, sacred). Their tongues are slimy, but the saliva is antibacterial, you’re welcome. You do get a glimpse of Giraffe Manor , the hotel where you can feed the same giraffes from your window. The stuff is incredible, and helpful. A member of staff will give an in depth talk about the conservation efforts, the history of the center and more.
  • A great way to spend the weekend. The giraffes are lovely and friendly. There is also a restaurant that is fairly priced and a souvenir shop. You can also take the nature trail. Can be quite the adventure.
