Giraffe Centre, Nairobi

#2 of 1,222 in Things to do in Kenya
Come face to face with some of the region's most endangered giraffes at Giraffe Centre. Established in 1983 as part of a long-serving conservation project to protect the East African Rothschild giraffe, this nonprofit organization provides educational programmes for the young people of Kenya. Entrance fees help support the cause, and you'll get to meet, feed, and even touch these towering creatures from a raised observation platform. A forest trail also provides a pleasant walk through the undergrowth (watch out for the warthogs). If you're feeling thirsty, head to the teahouse for some refreshment amid ambient scenery. Put Giraffe Centre into our Nairobi trip itinerary planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Nairobi.

  • After 2 months of rhinoceros appeared first. So cute! Then come children images in ascending order of age. It is a Ferris wheel in about an hour. Hours before they will be there. Go early, and doesn't take place, behind the big Western man and "invisible!?! "Next I. Description of the history of animals have endlessly in English. Is drinking milk, play is very cute. So close you can touch. Entrance fee is expensive but worth it. Your favorite image and ready the rhinos, the child can be donated. Is rewards. I went by the's. Close to Giraffe Center, mutmain (felt animal workshop and orphanages). So we walked up to mate mini Giraffe Center, is the narrow road is dangerous. To call mate mini, opened the Ascari's or someone to meet me ask them.

  • A place that inspires you to understand the meaning of life. Shows how majestic this creatures can be a place of solitude and wonder of what our eyes can behold in such a unique world and what a privilege to see such magnificent creatures roaming this world we live in. And to get close to them is a one in a lifetime experience that can not be missed.
  • A connection with nature. These animals are amazing creatures and the visit to the giraffe centre really exposes you to how magnificent giraffes are. You get to learn a lot about their living and we were fortunate enough to see a mating taking place.
  • Giraffes are just as cool up close. You can feed them and pet the friendlier ones. There is information to learn more about them. There is an open Cafe from which you can see them and a gift shop with all things giraffes. We spent about 40 minutes here but did not use the Cafe.
  • Giraffe centre, was simple honest fun. They supply you with the animal feed, and you just have a blast feeding those tall animals. Perfect for kids and adults alike, get a kiss from the giraffe if you brave enough! There are washrooms, a restaurant and gift shops.
  • The centre breeds endangered Rothschild giraffes for acclimation and then release into the bush. The staff will give you handfuls of pellets, treats to the giraffes, and you can get a very closeup view of the incredibly long lashes around the big soft eyes, and the amazing prehensile purple tongue. Put a pellet between your lips to create a great photo op kiss
