Giraffe Centre, Nairobi

4.3
#2 of 140 in Parks in Kenya
Come face to face with some of the region's most endangered giraffes at Giraffe Centre. Established in 1983 as part of a long-serving conservation project to protect the East African Rothschild giraffe, this nonprofit organization provides educational programmes for the young people of Kenya. Entrance fees help support the cause, and you'll get to meet, feed, and even touch these towering creatures from a raised observation platform. A forest trail also provides a pleasant walk through the undergrowth (watch out for the warthogs). If you're feeling thirsty, head to the teahouse for some refreshment amid ambient scenery. • Feed, Pat and kiss with giraffes-is this not happiness. The Center offers the experience, which we have not had any time in life. And because the giraffes-the best animal on Earth, the Centre is just phenomenal and is required to attend

  • One of my travel mates loves giraffes and wanted to stay at Giraffe Manor. Once we saw the $500 a night price tag we moved on and stayed at Bidwood Suite instead. When we went to the Centre- we learne...  more »
  • There's definitely a thrill in having a long black giraffe tongue slim your hand as you feed it food pellets. The skill with which they take the pellets helps you understand how they can eat the tende...  more »

  • À must see and must do tourist attraction while in Kenya. Such a nice experience to get to feed the giraffes as the rangers hand you pellets and you get a one on one with the tall animals. Their tongues are so smooth and fluffy and must I say that they are most photogenic animals I have seen. Loved every bit of it.
  • An interesting place to visit with kids. Its project is also admirable so would recommend supporting it. However, it is a bit small and not that much to do apart from feeding the giraffes and walking through a small exhibition area. Still, I feel I’ve learned a lot about these incredible creatures and I would recommend this place for a quick visit if you are in the area. Just don’t expect to spend there hours.
  • Great close up experience with some beautiful animals. Can get to feed them and view them. Small information centre, focused on education of local school children.
  • Excellent place, and we'll treated giraffes. The giraffes will lick your face. You feed the giraffes for no extra cost. Just pay the entrance them feed them as long as they want to keep eating for. Perfect for taking pics close up with the gentle giants
  • I loved it here. And those giraffes are huge and beautiful to watch. Wow. Feeding them was a delight. This was the second best location I visited during my stay.
