4.6
Wildlife Areas · Safaris · Nature & Parks
Home to the Great Migration and Africa's exceptional wildlife, Maasai Mara is a must on a Kenya itinerary. This reserve boasts some of the region's most varied topography, including hilly terrain, an escarpment leading to a plateau, and wide-open central plains that form much of the reserve. Wildlife-watching is the main event here, providing for outstanding sightseeing opportunities across 1,510 sq km (583 sq mi) of open-game territory. African elephants, Cape buffalo, black rhinoceros, crocodiles, and wildebeests roam the plains in a grand wildlife display. Where to stay in Maasai Mara National Reserve

Camping (raised tents on concrete platforms) and lodges are the predominant form of accommodation around Masaai Mara. Most options sit within the reserve or nearby in Talek, with some right on the banks of the Talek River. Accommodation here can get quite costly, but keep in mind that many places include meals, drinks, and safaris as part of a package deal. Some camps offer panoramic views of the Oloolaimutia hills.
