The Baiterek Tower, Astana

4.3
Bayterek, is a monument and observation tower in Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan. A tourist attraction popular with foreign visitors and native Kazakhs alike, it is emblematic of the city, which became capital of the country in 1997.DesignThe monument is meant to embody a folktale about a mythical tree of life and a magic bird of happiness: the bird, named Samruk, had laid its egg in the crevice between two branches of a poplar tree. The 105 m tall structure rises from a wide flat base within a raised plaza. It consists of a narrow cylindrical shaft, surrounded by white branch-like girders that flare out near the top, supporting a gold-mirrored 22 m diameter sphere. The base contains a ticket booth and exhibition space, with two lifts rising within the shaft to the observation deck within the 'egg'. Entrances to the monument are sunk below eye level, reached by stairs from the surrounding plaza. (It's somewhat similar to the 1982 World's Fair Sunsphere in Knoxville, TN, USA.(266 ft. Tall)(2006

  • Since there are several skyscrapers in Astana, it's not a special place. Most of the buildings are even higher than the Tower. You can take the escalator to climb the tower.  more »
  • If anyone would like to see the city from the observation deck it's a solution. Powaliło me because the city itself is crappy quasi. Entry fee. At the top of the miserable Café.

  • If you are in Astana, neobíďte Baiterek Tower. I certainly won't miss it, is at the center of the new part of the city to the State of the art (g) 5. The entrance fee for adults are the equivalent of less than 2 euros, you can get up on the floor by the elevator, where there is a café, where the Mainland is a beautiful view of the whole city. If you step foot on the floor above, you come to the stand, on which there is a golden imprint of the hand of the Kazakh President n. Nazarbajeva. You can thus bring with him a hand ...:-)

  • Spectacular tower with great views. I wish the golden windows would be better to see through. At the top you can put your hands in a mold of the hands of the president. More beautiful from the outside than the inside. Great place for a short visit.
  • Tower designed by the president himself to establish a base stone for construction of new city. Unique design referring the nest of the golden eagle with golden egg. One can view all city from the top of the nest.
  • The guide, who was standing there helped a lot to my guest! She was so kind to talk more about Baitetek, the Handprint and the Signatures of World Confessions. Thank you! I know it was under reconstruction, unfortunately, I didn't notice what exactly was "rewamped"
  • Nice place for tourists. You can enjoy small art gallery at ground floor. And enjoy the view at the top!
  • The Bayterek Tower is the symbol of power in the grandiose though somewhat artificial governmental and presidential areas of Astana, the new capital of Kazakhstan. It is very much worthwhile to visit the tower to the top - not only does it afford great views of the surroundings, but one can also fit ones hand into the hand print of the great leader.
