Khan Shatyr, Astana

4.0
#1 of 13 in Shopping in Kazakhstan
Enter the enormous tent structure of Khan Shatyr for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Opened in 2006, the British-designed 150 m (492 ft) tall building is made of translucent, heat-absorbing plastic that maintains a warm temperature inside year-round. The center houses an amusement park with a drop tower, log ride, and 500 m (1,640 ft) monorail; a mini-golf course; and an indoor beach resort with paddleboats. Well-lit at night and with a variety of activities, this landmark building is especially popular with families. • The outside structure is interesting, but inside, this is just another mall with the same stores as in the Western world (Starbucks, etc). Cool amusement park on the last floor, so if you have kids, t...  more »
  • This mall is worth visiting even if you are not a shopper. Enjoying the warmth and seeing how all shops are located under this tent. Major brands shops and souvenirs can be easily found.  more »

  • 롯데월드와 롯데 백화점의 축소판. 그모양과 구성이 흥미로움. A big shopping mall with an amusement park inside. I feel like a Astana version of Lotte World.
  • Good place to buy clothes. There are lots of vendors and the prices are usually good. The food court has lot of options, however it might get crowded, especially, at the weekends.
  • I love the architecture, but not so much the restaurant selection. It has many popular high street brands.
  • one of my fav mall in Astana. lot of shops and good verity of restaurant on top floor. The design of the mall is very unique and you should visit even if you do not need to buy anything.
  • A great weekend hangout specially during winter. A huge variety of shops are available to shop from with a wide variety of price range. There's a food court and fake seaside beach on the top floor. There are activities like cinema and rides for kids. A great family place.

Where to stay in Astana

With the rush of building going on in Astana, the capital city adds more and more accommodations to its urban area each year. Like most planned cities, the development has started from the center and fanned out, latching onto parks and crossroads to make new commercial, business, and entertainment districts. Some sky-high hotels offer all available luxuries and impressive views across the downtown area, while some more humble hotels serve as pleasant but basic options. Hostels with shared rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms sit on the less decorated side streets of the central district.
