Hazret Sultan Mosque, Astana

4.6
#1 of 7 in Historic Sites in Astana
Visit one of the most modern attractions in central Astana at Hazret Sultan Mosque. Opened in 2012, the imposing snow-white structure features a classical Islamic style employing Kazakh ornaments and a marble interior that can accommodate 5,000 people. Meanwhile, its huge courtyard, complete with fountains, can take another 5,000 visitors. The sprawling dome, a gilded 51 m (167 ft) tall ball, stands surrounded by four 77 m (253 ft) minarets. Inside, magnificent marble pillars with gilded ornaments support the main hall; look up to see vaulted ceilings arching overhead with turquoise and ochre patterns. • Due to the size, the mosque is interesting and worth a visit. Above all, the visit is free. Be careful with the dress code. Women with headgear, men with long trousers. The shoes must be removed before entering the mosque. The entrance to the mosque is carried out with the right foot, the output to the left.

  • Perfect place, the security guard have seen that we are tourists, he took us inside and was very polite. I recommend to visit it during the day, before they start to pray.
  • Very beautiful place. Super clean inside. You can read books about islam and get a knowledge. Stuff are kind, always help to visitors. Also they do have special classes of arabic language for free. For women there are special long all cover dresses in the case that you are not in it at that moment. I recommend to everyone to visit this place.
  • Females must wear long pants. Chador at the door is provided for females to cover yourself over your clothing. Shoes must be removed at the door. Photos are allowed. Please keep silence and avoid walking in front of anyone praying towards Mecca.
  • Solemn building in Islamic style. Very beautiful architecture. Wide parking area.

Where to stay in Astana

With the rush of building going on in Astana, the capital city adds more and more accommodations to its urban area each year. Like most planned cities, the development has started from the center and fanned out, latching onto parks and crossroads to make new commercial, business, and entertainment districts. Some sky-high hotels offer all available luxuries and impressive views across the downtown area, while some more humble hotels serve as pleasant but basic options. Hostels with shared rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms sit on the less decorated side streets of the central district.
