Founded in 1976 to house the Kazakh state gallery and a museum of decorative art, the institution was renamed in the 1980s in honor of the country's first professional artist, Abylkhan Kasteyev. Today, the museum boasts over 23,000 pieces of Western European, Russian, and East Asian art. See contemporary Kazakh works, old Russian icons, paintings and drawings by 16th-century Flemish and Dutch artists, as well as tapestries, jewelry, and leather.   • A huge Museum with a bunch of works about socialist realism. Moreover, with the Eastern flavor, naturally. There's also a gallery where you can buy something (from a few hundred to 200 000000 dollars, including the work of the museum itself). Very cool

  • I think for the guests of Almaty is one of the places you must visit! For foreigners it is informative because the Museum has paintings by Kazakhstani artists also can admire on contemporary art and see interesting installation.
