Kolsai Lakes, Almaty

4.8
Take a drive up to Kolsai Lakes, three alpine lakes nestled among the dramatic cliffs and fir forests of the Tian Shan mountain range. Six hours away from Almaty, the road leading to the lake area is bumpy but scenic, passing vast steppes and canyons. Explore the picturesque landscape of the hiking trails around the lakes, go fishing for trout, camp out, or visit a lakeside guesthouse. On a warm summer day, cool off with a dip in the lakes' clear, placid waters. To visit Kolsai Lakes on your trip to Almaty, use our Almaty trip itinerary maker tool .

  • Alesta, need to go for a few days with tents, it is simply necessary. You can get out of the camp by the water and then the next day to go to the second Lake. I second the Lake even sailed. 30 minutes to climb trees. Water ice, skin then don't feel. What struck me, so this is the height of the trees. They are huge and the air is pure. In spite of all this beauty, think that you are in the mountains of Switzerland, not in Kazakhstan, a country scorched steppe. It is a pity that such beautiful places are not often found in Kazakhstan. This narrow strip of mountains along the border with Kyrgyzstan.

  • Great place, I advise you to go to all! From breathtaking beauty, the only minus is the road and not comfortable buses. Went 2 times. 1 on his car, lived in a cottage straight Lake (cottage is not for everyone, but there are no facilities in such places people don't drive Suite terms). 2nd time through tour pros that there is on and moving, and accommodation and food, but no freedom of action, all strictly on programme and buses again Super is not comfortable. But nature is something fantastic, so if you happened to be visiting Almaty, take 2 days to contemplate and enjoy)

  • A can be considered close to Almaty (by car approx. 40 min.) This impressive place I'm glad erinmeyip million. The Majesty of the mountains around the Lake's impressive color, is really worth a visit. Also for the first time in my life we lived out on the experience of the 3,500 mt. Experience in the computational difficulty breathing at this altitude.

Where to stay in Almaty

Accommodations in the urban area of Almaty can be found almost exclusively in the grid-system city center. Located close to the main train station, you'll find hotels both upmarket and budget, with the former enjoying commanding views of the mountains on tree-lined boulevards, and the latter tucked away on the central district's side streets. Ski resorts to the south, as well as wild camping opportunities, provide good options for those wanting to get active and enjoy the surrounding landscape.
