Marvel at the giant 371.5 m (1,219 ft) tall "syringe" of Almaty Television Tower, the world’s tallest tubular steel structure, built on the slopes of Kok Tobe Mountain near Almaty. Completed in 1983, this fabulous piece of Soviet engineering captures and broadcasts signal across rugged mountains, dominating a spectacular landscape. Observe Almaty from the deck below the tower in a small park with a mini-zoo, a restaurant, and a cafe. Designed to withstand earthquakes of up to 10 on the Richter scale, this modern steel structure features two observation decks at 146 m (479 ft) and 252 m (827 ft), accessible by two high-speed elevators. Part of Kok Tobe Park, you can take a cable car near the tower, and enjoy a meal or a coffee at its base. • The Almaty Television Tower, or simply Almaty Tower, is a 371.5-metre-high (1,219 ft) steel television tower built between 1975 and 1983 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The tower is located on high slopes of Kok Tobe mountain (Kazakh: Көктөбе means "green hill") south-east of downtown Almaty. Unlike other similar TV towers, it is not a concrete, but a steel tubular structure. It is the tallest free-standing tubular steel structure in the world. The tower is 371.5 m (1219 ft) tall; its 114 m metal aerial reaches 1000 meters above sea level. It has two observation decks at the height of 146 m and 252 m, which are accessible by two high-speed elevators. It is however not open to the public. The tower was built by the architects Terziev, Savchenko, Akimov and Ostroumov. Since Almaty is particularly vulnerable to earthquakes, the TV tower was designed to withstand earthquakes up to a strength of 10 on the Richter scale.
  • The tower itself is not that great, but the view from the hill is the best in the city. Visiting the city without ascending that hill at sunset would be a shame.
  • this place is very beautiful of almaty..
  • The symbol of Almaty. Unfortunately going to the top of of the tower is forbidden. Its base is a venue for some community celebrations or exhibits. There is also an observation deck though the viewing telescopes are broken. You can see the entirety of sleepy Almaty and the breathtaking range of Trans-Ili Alatau Mountain range. I suggest to visit the tower in the afternoon to see the golden sunset.
  • Good place to visit in summer
