  • In fact for a year there was not, but before that was 4 times. And every time it was interesting. Various rock paintings give an understanding of the life of ancient people. The river or brings tranquility to its leisurely course... In summer time you can swim in the river. The location is very interesting for fishermen. Also on the rocks periodically held competitions for active tourism-climbing, etc.

  • We had contacted indy-guide.com to reserve "Tamgaly petroglyphs Tour - Day Trip Almaty" by Tatyana Gussar. She and her husband, Ramon, picked us up at 8 AM in their nice air conditioned Toyota at our ...  more »
  • Taxi chartered from Altman's two and half hours. Is a world heritage site in the Kazakh steppe. Entrance fee is 8/2018 currently, adult one 1500 KZT. Gate near Ulster's toll. Toilet is not only near the gate. Go on and self-guided. The entrance and the weather map in several places, almost invisible. Also no pamphlets, but inside is almost one road. A number indicating the route to places where rock paintings and signs; Rock art is depicted on the slopes on both sides there was a river of exposed rock surface. Rather than use paint, shallow carved rock surface; Motifs of sheep, horse, camel, animals, humans and the Sun God. Bronze-drawn to the iron age, but amazingly choreographed, and are still fresh. As the visit a note (1) should long pants, shoes and climb the slope, such as Scorpions, snakes and spiders are so so. (2) the tour time is 2 hours. Better no where to buy drinks and food to areas in and around almost without shade, so you have water and hats.

  • It is a unique open-air museum where you can immerse yourself in history 3000 - 5000 years ago!
  • Tanbaly Petroglyphs protected by UNESCO, were discovered for the first time in 1957 by the great archaeologist Anna Maximova. ranging from the Bronze Age to the XIII-XIV centuries AD
  • Really amazing place. Well worth the bad roads to get there.
  • Amazing pleace. From one side it is far away but from other it looks like travel to the past. Once you reach it and local guys meet you for ticket you are already 50 years back. And when you pass gate travel starts to several millennium back when people were carving stones for whatever reason. It is huge and I would say still unexplored completely. And open nature. Amazing. Just be sure to bring hiking shoes and water....
  • It's way far out in the middle of nowhere, but the petroglyphs here are incredible! Most of the carvings are old, but many are new. It is well deserving of the UNESCO World Heritage Site designation.
