Wadi al-Mujib, Jordan

4.3
#7 of 22 in Parks in Jordan
Cool off on a fun water hike through Wadi al-Mujib, a diverse nature reserve surrounding the eponymous river that flows into the Dead Sea. The relaxing river hike--which you can take without a guide--is popular in the summer as a way to escape the scorching heat. However, other trails in the reserve do require a guide. You’ll receive a life jacket from the park authorities, and, depending on the water levels, crossing the canyon from the Dead Sea to the waterfall might require swimming and climbing a variety of obstacles. The park prohibitis minors from hiking the canyon trail. • The hotel is very average to say the worst... Cleanliness is not an axis of major work for management. The site is however very nice and deserves a bit more planning and consideration. Signs of the mediocre place.

  • We loved this tour. It's beautiful, refreshing and unusual. Count 2: go / return. We had a very nice guide. This allowed us to some difficult passages, and also to have souvenir photos. We entrust a camera. Remember to take a waterproof bag with you for your business, because you are completely wet. The course is open to everyone, but there are a few passages a bit technical (where the interest to have a guide if you're not great sportsman). Enjoy!

  • There is so much fun going up the Canyon through the the water. You need to be fit to complete the trail. Highly recommended.  more »

  • Hiking upstream will test your endurance to the limits, there are 4 - 5 points where you will have to climb up steep rocks mostly using ropes and against the stream, threat of slipping is quite high, the center only provides you with a floating jacket, my recommendation is to gear up with (ordered by priority): - tight high neck shoes, preferably hiking shoes - can't over emphasize the importance of good shoes here - safety helmet, a bicycle helmet should do - tightly sealed water bottle, the kind that comes with a secure hook that you latch on to your vest, you will need to drink lots of water - it's pretty hot down there and you will be exerting a lot of effort, and if you take any bottle that doesn't have a latch it will get lost before you venture too deep into the valley - knee and elbow pads, while not essential but they will protect you against lots of scuffs and bruises on those areas - gloves - pretty nice to have The trip down stream is much easier, make sure to let go and float along the stream!
  • Such an amazing experience. Love it. I will definitively visiting it again (inshaa Allah)
  • wadi mujib の沢登りはここではありません!!dead sea沿いの道路の観光センターからやります。 Mujib Nature Reserve, Dead sea road, Sweimeh, Jordan DO NOT use this location, you will come to middle of nowhere. If you want to do the river trekking, go to MUJIB NATURE RESERVE which is on the coast of the dead sea.
  • A must see in Jordan. One of the hidden treasures of Jordan. It's a stunning place. It is challenging to get across. Recommended.
  • THIS LOCATION IS WRONG. Wadi Mujib was a really great experience but it's on the Dead Sea coast, not here. Look for "Mujib Reserve".

Where to stay in Madaba

The town of Madaba, situated on the King's Highway and near the airport, can make a great base for trips to Amman, the Dead Sea, and other nearby attractions. Choose from a number of two- and three-star hotels, mostly affordable lodgings run by local families and offering standard amenities such as air-conditioning, breakfast, and Wi-Fi. If you're looking to splurge, head to the four-star chain hotel, boasting an outdoor swimming pool and plenty of spacious rooms. Most of the hotels cluster in the central area of the small town, which you can easily explore on foot.
