  • Billed as the star attraction in Madaba, St. George’s is a working church with a detailed mosaic map. We went a bit after the church service had let out and the smell of incense was still in the air.....  more »

  • It was nice to visit the church, it was very beautiful! It was wonderful to see the Mosaic Map on the floor, we had a bit of a lesson before we went into the church. You wouldn't need very long here.  more »
  • I saw a copy of part of the map from Madaba in Jerusalem, so I was very curious about the original. Historically is map very valuable, but honestly it is not such a great experience. It is only partially preserved and there are a lots of people every time, so you have to wait in queue. I liked the mosaics in near archaeological park much more. On the other hand, on the copies of map in the Visitors' Center you can see the whole original mosaic and get an idea of the geography of the Holy Land. I liked to see it, but once was enough.
  • The Madaba Map that resides in this church is truly a remarkable piece of loving history. Regardless of whether you’re a devout Christian or not, it is hard to not be impressed by the historical significance of this map and the place the Church holds in biblical references.
  • Well preserved and well maintained old church with several beautiful mosaic paintings. Very calm and beautiful atmosphere surrounding the church making it an ideal spot to pray.
  • The oldest preserved map of Byzantium made in mosaic. A historical jewel that can be seen in the church of San Jorge de Madaba.
  • Map mosaic is in Greek and difficult to read. The guy collecting tickets speaks Arabic and was quite helpful when we asked. I didn't see any help in English.
