Ruin · Tourist Spot
Take a tour of the 12th-century ruins of Ajloun Castle, a historic Muslim castle that was once the core of the town of Aljoun. The fort and castle were built in 1185 by a local emir, under the command of Saladin, the first sultan of Syria and Egypt. You can take a taxi or brave the uphill trek from the city to the fortress, where you’ll find a small museum that displays a variety of artifacts and relics. Explore the castle’s nooks and crannies, and enjoy the expansive views from the towering hill that overlooks the city. • This is a classic fortress that's being renovated (almost done). It's also nicely cool inside. Very interesting to read how inhabitants used to live in there. Very accessible and you're being...  more »

  • Ajlouni Castle is really an imposing and amazing place to explore. It sits high on a hill (just like every fortress/castle seems to), and it is extremely well preserved. The inside of the castle is....  more »
  • Went there 4 times in one year. It's cool, nice, entry fees not so expensive, a bit of a hike, needs a better parking lot. There should be more informative stuff so that people might learn something. A great view ones you reach the top
  • A Roman Castle designed for defence and protection The castle has an ancient church with mosaic that shows Jesus Fish miracle. Excellent architecture and arches. The main towers have been destroyed. There is a water channel around the castle that is dry. You pass over a wooden bridge to get in.
  • It was an interesting castle to see. It was well maintained. The view was much better than from Amman's Citadel. There is a parking near castle so it's not that hard to get there.
  • Small but impressive castle. It has some explanations and some illuminations. Overall it's worth a visit if you're around and haven't seen to many castles before. It's also cool inside, is you wanna avoid the heat for some minutes. There are two parking lots and one is a little further up. But you might have to get a ticket at the lower one first.
  • Visited while travelling to Jerash. Location is very impressive. We get panoramic view from the castle. It is certainly a well worth visit.
