  • The silk history, culture, and paintings by using Silk-weaving tradition of old-fashioned articles and historical materials related to the silk industry began in the early Meiji period, production tools. Yokohama port trade and growth is from opening until the beginning of the Showa era, became the raw silk trade exports. Raw silk was transported to Yokohama with River, road and unplug in 1909, Japan China, silk exporter in the world. This silk-reeling industry of Japan supported Japan's economy and contributed to the modernization. And foreign cultures spread in various parts of Japan from the silk city and Yokohama Silk Museum can be reached on these silk history.

  • The most interesting part is that visitors are allowed to draw from cocoons and operate on an old sewing machine. The staff are happy to assist and explain in simple English.  more »

  • It is an interesting place. You can get to know almost everything about silk (even see all those silkworms). Beauliful kimonos are on the second floor. There's a nice shop with silk things and illustrated books about Japanese clothes. I bought one and got a lovely sweet gift=)
  • Appearance does not change from the age of the Showa era I grew up. Just like a Oh, Meiji era? Old, when is the guests can experience the taste of Yokohama opened at that time.
