Yamashita Park, Yokohama

#1 of 110 in Parks in Yokohama
A peaceful public space, Yamashita Park faces Yokohama's waterfront. After the 1923 earthquake that left much of Yokohama in ruin, the city government recycled the rubble from the disaster to build this park, first opened in 1930. The space now contains a 1929 Japanese ocean liner converted into a ship museum, as well as assorted notable sculptures, including a Girl Scout statue marking the 50th anniversary of the popular youth organization. Bring a picnic and spread out on the park's grassy, landscaped lawns. • Visited several times. Walking after meals in Chinatown, and headed out. Staff and management, such as planting is very beautiful, so so good. Flower color is very nice. Seeing the seagulls sitting side by side in a chain of hikawa Maru is one of fun.

  • We have enjoyed here as well. Nice place to be in. I highly recommend to everyone, visit this place. We were visited there in the month of Dec. 2017. Yamashita Park is a public park that stretches about 750 meters along Yokohama's waterfront. The park is about a hundred meters wide, and consists mostly of open green space. It was constructed after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923.
  • Beautiful park right next to the beach with grand water features, trees and a lot of seating areas. Great place for relaxation specially at sunset. Take a walk along the long walkway leading to Yokohama city centre.
  • Perfect time during the spring. Beautiful colorful flowers plus the captivating hue of the sky during the sunset. Nearby is Chinatown for great food.
  • Near welknown Yokohama chinatown where many locals and foreign visitors sitting and barking. It was sunny in April but the weather was cold and windy. One of beautiful places in Japan tourists should visit.
  • Romantic and modern part of Japan. Holand influence is felt very strong in this area as the port of Yokohama was the only port of Japan which was opened to foreigners during the isolation era of Japan.
