4.4
#1 of 50 in Wildlife Areas in Chubu
Wildlife Area Nature / Park
Part of a larger national park, Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park features a series of hot springs that attract a large number of Japanese macaques. Especially picturesque when covered in snow, this remote area allows you to observe monkeys as they bathe in the pools of warm water. Get close to the animals and take a few photos, but remember that it's forbidden to touch and feed the wildlife sheltered within park grounds. Put Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Yamanouchi-machi trip itinerary maker.

Where to stay in Yamanouchi-machi

As in most mountain resort towns in the country, the accommodations of Yamanouchi-machi lie spread out across the terrain, focusing on the main natural highlights. The hot springs close to Yudanaka train station have a fair number of the most frequented options, with new hotels and traditional ryokans with onsens, along with some more budget-friendly guesthouses. Look along the main highways leading up into the mountains to the east for ryokans and hotels heated by hot springs, as well as some ski resorts.
