  • Within walking distance from Wakkanai station. Had a splendid shrine, cut up the stairs. Seemed to be fairly seen from under the stairs, but actually not so, Hey was anticlimactic.

  • Quiet place, on the way up to Wakkanai Park. The shrine itself is pretty standard, but once climb beyond the shrine, one will be able to enjoy the spectacular view of Wakkanai Port and the city.
  • Shinto shrine gate (most Kumon shrines) but enjoy the waiting 80 stairs where you will find the northernmost Prefecture nokyo-Sho, as well as a sense of achievement. City one can see, the whole gamut of Wakkanai.

  • Windy and less snow winter white-out conditions to be heard. Sound waves are ringing torrents. On the shrine next to the road, the road "deer note" of written characters. Original nokyo-sho bag.

Where to stay in Wakkanai

Wakkanai has a good mix of accommodations, primarily located close to the two main train stations. Look out for side-street hostels providing particularly budget-friendly options, along with upmarket hotels close to the shops and restaurants of the newly developed port areas. Many visitors choose instead to stay on the islands of Rebun and Rishiri, with the two flower-covered landmasses chief among the regional highlights and possessing a good range of lodgings, including traditional ryokans with onsite onsens.
