Cape Noshappu, Wakkanai

3.5
Enjoy delicious seafood and the attractive seascape at Cape Noshappu, with views of the islands of Rishiri and Rebun. As you walk along the coastline, keep your eyes out for spotted seals dozing on the coast. You can delve further into the marine life at the nearby aquarium, which hosts seals and many other animals from ocean's depths. Stop in one of the eateries for the chance to try fresh octopus, squid, flounder, and Hokkaido's most famous sea urchin bowl. Note that sunsets are particularly dramatic here, with ribbons of vibrant color stretched across the horizon. Cape Noshappu is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Wakkanai Edition.

  • Unfortunately, it was cloudy skies and strong winds. It was the sense of accomplishment I've walk while holding the CAP in hand when strong winds had finally come. I'd say this, but there's nothing better. Only, and is looking at the sea, I felt close to the present Japan's northernmost Aquarium, outside on the Antarctic wintering facilities. Sakhalin Husky "taro, Giro" on is rich in resources.

  • I think I was always Cape nosappu is North of Wakkanai station was a Cape noshappu! Also the garrison of self-defense is somehow pretentious. It is North of fsenin. Is by the way not the northernmost Hokkaido northernmost point is Cape soya.

  • You will go to the ends of the North from the city of Wakkanai. There are monuments. Wind is a wind speed 17 m went to 11-walk I did. Sea view from there during the day was for the North. Looked very suspicious when I visited ago sunset in the evening, Sun and sea, looks a little scary views.

  • This is the place where u can view beautiful sunset of Japan. Nearby the tip, u can see the 2 offshore islands. Very cold and windy. U can jump in bus 3 right in front of the JR station. Take about 10 mins to reach.
  • Here is not a famous place. However, we could see a panorama view within Rishiri island and Rebun island. Easy to go there from central Wakkanai by bus.
  • The dolphin clock is cute.
  • 風景不錯,天氣好的時候可以看到離島。這個不是日本最北的宗谷岬。
  • Bad weather in early summer of shame. Because low temperatures, windy and cold in winter as well as mainland. Feeling no helpful experience.

Where to stay in Wakkanai

Wakkanai has a good mix of accommodations, primarily located close to the two main train stations. Look out for side-street hostels providing particularly budget-friendly options, along with upmarket hotels close to the shops and restaurants of the newly developed port areas. Many visitors choose instead to stay on the islands of Rebun and Rishiri, with the two flower-covered landmasses chief among the regional highlights and possessing a good range of lodgings, including traditional ryokans with onsite onsens.
