Wakayama Castle, Wakayama
(3.9/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Marvel at the varied and interesting history of Wakayama Castle, a landmark central to the town's cultural lineage. Built in 1586 as the castle of a feudal lord, the building was heavily contested during the reconstruction of Japan, changing hands and uses regularly. The castle's current appearance--a chalky white exterior with three stories towering above the center of the city--owes much to renovations during the 17th century. Observe the cityscape below from this mountaintop seat of history and power, admiring the top-down view that so many rulers have cherished throughout the castle's complicated history. With our international travel planner, Wakayama attractions like Wakayama Castle can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Before I went to the Hot Springs Mountain, visit the Wakayama Castle. Impressive stone walls is piled a small stone masonry of intimidating Osaka Castle with stairs covered by beautiful green stone and boulders and is completely different. Is the green felt Tokugawa richness and Majesty. With superb Nishi Maru leaves her eyes, Red Maple leaves are subtly color change around Green bright in. Looking up from the banks of the pond, or enjoyed the beauty look down near the tea leaves are different. In the autumn this year was the best. Seems staff had left.

  • Reat Walk on the castlegrounds, worth visiting although the castle was closed when i went. I went in the Evening, Nice atmosphere.
  • A beautful Wakayama Castle. You can learn the knowledge of JAPAN castle. No many people to bother you. You can enjoy it comfortably.
  • Great view of the city from the top of the castle, along with relics inside for viewing (descriptions in Japanese only). There is a mild incline walk to get to the entrance of the castle but is well worth the visit. Entrance ticket also includes a voucher to the relatively new Wakayama history museum nearby, which is worth a visit as well (English descriptions available there).
  • Excellent view if good timing. Better reach there before 9am.
  • Beautiful castle with a nice garden
